I think you hit the nail on the head and most people have been spending far too much time watching movies and surfing the net. Which may be why their all worked up about higher bandwidth. I'm quite sure they would love to discard reality for their fluffy little online world of make believe where their all a ten foot tall genius who's bullet proof.
However the reality of it is were stuck here and anybody who thinks we can just wreck this planet, our home, and move on is a lunatic in my books. I live and breath science and technology however I also work in the industry. There is a minor disconnect between what people say is possible in the near future and what we have in place a bit larger than the grand canyon. So for me it is a bit comical how people buy into the hype which will most likely never see the light of day. However their not really interested in the light of day and prefer sitting in front of an electron tube with moving dots in a dimmly lit room
In fact it gets worse and most of the people I deal with are barely capable of keeping what we have working let alone building anything new... kind of like the old space shuttle program, lol.
Tick..Tick..Tick
In other news the central U.S. is turning into a desert and the record temperatures are forecast to continue for a decade or so. This coupled with the fact they have no water and barely enough power to keep the lights on is not a good sign. Meanwhile despite massive crop failures, water shortages and brownouts the people could be seen dancing in the streets upon hearing the walking dead series would be continued another season....the walking dead indeed.

Oh yeah!...and We are such developed and High Civilized, Advanced Race...We have all kind of Massive Transportation Crafts...We could travel the speed of light...and have no abnormalities even felt in our bodies...we learned such a long time ago about this...We could establish in any other Planet and start from scratch in a bit...right?
