I did a few quick calculations assuming the following, 100% efficiency, 15L buckets, a chain-wheel diameter of around half a meter with buckets attached.

5kW is possible provided the speed of lift in the buckets is around 3 seconds.

      Problems:-
      Friction would be significant
      Drag would be huge
Generator efficiency usually 80% or less
      Compressor efficiency around 80%
      gearbox efficiency around 80%
      chain drive efficiency around 95%

A realistic output would be 5kWx0.8x0.8x0.8x0.95 = 2.4kW less drag and friction Friction could conceivably consume 5 to 10% but the killer is drag. 26 x 15liter volume buckets are moving 390 litres of water on 3 seconds and as there is little space around them in the tube it would been it is effectively pumping the water.

The potentially consumed power at the speed required to give 5kw is almost 16kw. Not possible within the volume of the tube shown; however if we take a more leisurely approach allowing for the above factors we have 260w of power to turn our generator and take up the losses. With drag and friction being small we could potentially have around 130w of usable power from a device of this size.

Power would increase with speed but drag would increase exponentially until the device acted as a pump so speed could not be increased that much. My gut feeling is it will be closer to 500w than 5kW

to get straight to the point ... no one would put all that investment into a commercial project for a return of 500w .. you only have to wait 2 days to know the truth so why don't we all just wait. this is Germany the ethics are not the same as in the 'full of crap' USA

I agree, is there something I have missed?

The device has gain but mounted in a tube makes it so the water has nowhere to be displaced to, causing a problem. In the sea, a lake or swimming pool it would function better. I could make changes to the design which could improve things, Im sure lots of us could. It does not look like a well sorted project, more like something in an embryonic stage. Simple changes to the bucket design making them have a teardrop cross section and increased tube diameter are two changes I would make immediately.

The red flag to me was the 5kW claim because that is enough to power an average house, My first reaction was "ill have some of that" so I made a couple of quick calculations and saw an immediate problem. I don't doubt there is gain.

I would like to know more for sure.
