    Hi Why,

Notice in the lower right corner of the meter display it says: FS=5A. That means Full Scale takes 5 Amps actual input. The meter has 2 scales going to 40 & 80 Amperes. So it is intended to be used with a current transformer with a ratio of 8:1 or 16:1. It also is marked 25-125~ indicating the frequency range. Obviously AC.

    Hope that helps,

    bi

Eric Dollard says it needs a 40 to 5 or 80 to 5 current transformer. Otherwise, it is a 5 amp meter. With the right current transformer, you can make it read anything you want.
