I know copper will not play well with steel but will turning the copper into an amalgam make contact with steel non corrosive and or still have decent electrical properties?
My guess is that it will still have "decent" electrical properties, but less than pure copper.
And there will definitely be an electrical interaction causing corrosion when in contact with other metals such as iron. I don't think that can be avoided unless perhaps you can make the transition to iron more graduate (slowly increasing the iron content and decreasing the copper). Unfortunately iron does not form an amalgam with mercury, so that does not help much.
