  • Energy Positive Building

In addition to one of the world's largest solar roofs, the building will also have integrated wind turbines, solar-driven cooling and de-humidification. The building will consume 70% less water than other buildings of comparable size.

This building is only the beginning though. Masdar is building an entire green city from scratch, and Masdar headquarters is just part of the first phase (slated to be completed in 2010.) The rest of the city will be completed by 2016, at a total cost of more tan $22 billion.

wow! that's a cool building! Though I wonder how long it will take for the solar panels to pay for themselves?

On a differnet note: When I read the title of this post it reminded of a building that was being built in Hong Kong while I was living there in the 80s.

The chinese believe that the land has a flow of natural energy and that energy in hong kong was flowing from the sea to the top of the mountain.

So when they started to build a huge building right in the center of this flow, they were worried that it may block this positive energy from flowing freely so they redesigned the building. It now has a huge hole in the middle of it!

Just did a search... found it!

I think we need somebody who knows fung shui to explain this

I do know that the Native Hawaiians would divide their land in pie like slices so that each ohana (family, or in this case large family group) had access to everything from the mountains to the sea.

I learned about some of their inspiring methods of living in harmony with nature in college. I will have to post about them sometime.
