I just had a closer look at your photo and it looks like the label on the fan's casing says: COP2
lol, sorry... it made me chuckle! Perhaps it's a good omen

i wish i can say, i did. but i did not take 2 much notice when i took it apart. but i do beleve it would have been like that @ some time (i tryed all options but the best i got out of it, was it rocked from side to side) i will have to try it again as u have it there.

WOOPS... I made a mistake... I just reuploaded the image... this is the way to wire it!
If you wire it up the way it is shown there then we can try and pin point the problem... Can't test it while it is in pieces

that is so true i will get every thing ready (it is only 2 in the morning so i think a pot of coffee will also b in order
lol... it's half past midnight here so may have to pick this up again in the morning

that might b a plan. 4:30 now, so i wander if it is worth sleeping (sleep is overrated) well i tried both ways but it wont spin up, if i sort of pulse it by hand, i can get it to turn (in a way) made a small video of it (15sec) but dont know how to post it.

the most common problem is a fried transistor. try briefly shorting the collector (the transistor casing) and the base (the pole with the potentiometer) together. If the transistor is still good, then it should repel the magnets and make the fan blades jump.

i was just getting exited, looked as if it wanted 2 spin and all that was needed, was 2 set the pot or some thing. but now u tell me about the short thing, there is no jump :-(

So there is no reaction from the fan when you short the base and collector? if so then sounds like the transistor may be fried... Strange since you are using a neon
But it will jump if you short the collector and emitter, right?

1 thing on the neon, it had a resistor on it, was that ment 2 b there
Hi lost66.
Neon goes between emitter and collector and suppose to short high voltage, preventing transistor. However, transistor can fry within seconds with neon being lit, since neon treshold is higher than transistor's max. voltage. For neon to fire you need over 80+V. 2N3055 is rated @ 60V. Where is your resistor connected?
