  • Yes i have no idea what im doing with caps so thanks for slapping my wrists
can anyone please push me in the right direction as to how i setup and use a 555 chip i have two 12v 12amp batterys waiting to be used.
Also im just using the orignal bedini circuit is this corect?
Hope im not being to much of a pain.

    • No worries Imhotep, while we are at it then please exersize caution with non lead acid batteries, including but not limited to nicads, Metal Hydrides and Lithium Ions. It pays to search around and learn the basics of how that battery functions and how it is charged conventionally. Nicads for example can be discharged at C1 rates, and in some instances charged at C1 as well. But they are extremely sensitive to over charging. By all means consider the consequences of a small bomb going off inside your lab/house/garage/babys room. Read up on safety precautions and use common sense.

      • thanks for tips. i have been a little over excited, and throwing many combinations a quick as i can, and sometimes not checking thorough data. just trying to do many combinations to get data out as soon as possible. I am starting to slow down a bit, i am actually rediscovering this thing, i think they call it sleep..lol doing many projects simultaneously, and i tend to forget that there is a lot of people trying these fans who don't have much experience in the field and don't know all the precautions. always play safe

i have had good success with the lithium piles. they are expensive and monitoring extensively. learning more and more about the different builds of batteries. was aware of of NiHM in conventional chargers getting very hot. and so taking extra precautions on those type of batteries, monitoring with infrared temp read out as well as touch. and they seem to charge cold. i actually ran into one i cannot explain (NiHM) it charges up to 1.5 volts, no capacity but charges caps. but will not run any resistive or inductive loads. strange maybe its the first cold energy battery..lol.

but will be taking many precautions, as i hope others do as well.

        • Safety reminders...

I have no power on this board, but I do like to share common sense I have found

          1. Batteries can be bad... not a good idea to leave your experiments with certain types of batteries

Laptop battery why to be careful!!!!
YouTube - PC Pitstop: Laptop Battery Fire

          Cell phone batteries
YouTube - Lithium Ion Ionen battery overcharge & explosion

          Capacitors the wrong way...
YouTube - Capacitor exploding after applying excessive voltage.

General things to learn, do not use a low rated capacitor for a big job, also check the polarity of DC capacitors.

Laptop batteries and cell phone batteries on the SSG, do not charge overnite, while you are sleeping in your home.

          Just some good tips..

And also what should the readings be when connected where? Opposite from each post or clockwise? etc. Thanks!

I did take the advice and get lead free w/ silver solder instead of Rosin Core, it works a bit better, I managed to solder one post!

I have a Mastercraft digital mutimeter, it has lots of options but none of them change when I put the leads on the coils.. Since resistance is measured with the omega sign (horseshoe) I'd imagine thats what I'm supposed to be using?? Well I have the options of 2000k, 200k, 20k, 2000, 200 but none do anything except show a 1.

edit: I just got a reading to show up using 2000k mode, it went from 1600 to 400 and then stabilized between 800-1400, this was from 2 opposite posts, and this is all I could get to happen, any advice?

I also noticed one of the gap between coils has no wire crossing it, is this a problem?
checking continuity is easy, take probes place on two of the posts on low res settings it should read 10-60 ohms if it doesn't keep probe on one of the posts and move to other ones see if you get reading if no reading move to next post if still no reading search through previous earlier entry's in this thread the mart has good vid of more tips and details

So If I get a reading from 2 opposite posts, and then a reading for the other 2 opposite posts, I'm ready to go? Awesome!

                  • These are good tools to be safe in experimenting, and help you evaluate rpm's of fan, and temp of batteries without having to touch them and temp of motor areas and or power supplies if you using power supplies instead of batteries as a source. And a super inexpensive disposable multimeter. There are on sale right now at harbor freight for 2.99 stock up.

the multimeters can be used to monitor voltages and amperage, the rest are self explanatory

thats right! if no get a no start condition switch polarity of trigger wire, which ever coil set your using as a trigger wire set. good to go yay!

Thanks Imhotep time for me to study.

My set is Mr Bedini(Thank You) motor with one 12v fan with original whinding.
power one 9v battery running at 0.04amps charging one 9v
starting volts at 8.31 after full discard of primary battery, charge battery reads 8.50v
will repeat process unit charge battery volts reads 10, will them time discharge then repeat.
                          Good Luck everyone.

                          • Well I got mine all put together but its not workin'.

The only things I think I did differently is I am using 3 amp diodes instead of 2.5 (it is all they had) would this cause a problem?

When I first connect the battery I get a single spark through the neon and the fan moves but doesn't spin.

Now when I connect the battery I get no neon spark but the fan moves the same but doesn't spin.

                            My batteries (12v 6ah and 12v 14ah) both read 13.0 V

                            Any ideas?

these fans arent self starters. trying spinning it up. If you have already tried this, you can switch the trigger wire coils. if you have tried that look your circuit over carefully and make sure you have all connections correct. 3 amp diode should not make a difference, might switch a little slower but thats about it. let us know.
