I have not had any batteries blow up. They are correct when they say you are using potential and very low to no amps. I've had about 90 percent success rate with EVERY type of of battery. So gather yourself a bunch of batteries and have fun.
I monitor the voltage with a meter, any small cheap meter will work, to just see what kind of volts you are going to. It doesnt indicate capacity, but it does tell you where your at as far at the voltage goes. And as stated above, Ive took caps to hundred of volts and not one has blown up. But i have made spark gaps out of them and melted screwdriver tips. Lots of fun!!! Let us know how your experiments go.
