found an animation of what I was describing...the NS would be the battery and electromagnet...not concerned about ringing the bell..but the opening and closing of contact T..after sleeping on it realized the bell in the above animation should/could be another set of contacts that fire the NS in the opposite direction..

almost replication

don't have iron wire so built stubblefield style coil with bare copper wire and magnet wire (insulated)..cheap bolt for core..voltage between bolt and bare wire started at .66 and has slowly climbed to .69...now here's where it gets interesting...the magnet wire started out at .44 volts between it and bolt..but has been slowly climbing all day..its up to .76 now..this is the insulated wire!!..the voltage between the bare wire and the magnet wire has been the difference between the two..very small....the insulated wire keeps climbing in potential..really really want to get some iron wire now..anybody have any idea whats goin on..used old blue jeans between layers

My guess is the magnet wire is a smaller diameter which would give you higher voltage. Plus its insulated so no oxidation on it.

1008 Carbon Steel—Black-Oxide Finish. You dont need galvanized. 5lb spool,480feet, for .063" Dia which is bascially #14 awg goes for $20. I would get the spool and not the coil. A pain winding from a coil. The 1008 has lower carbon than 1018.
