  • Is now the time to panic?

I have to admit I am beginning to panic. The world has gone from crumbling to the early stages of an avalanche.

The cost of fuel is soaring, and this is raising the price of everything to a point I can barely afford to go to work!

Our freedoms and liberties are being stripped away and more and more each day I feel trapped and .... I can't think of a word for it, a feeling that I have little influence on the direction of my/our fate. "Helpless" probably describes it best.

I have had an escape plan for a while now, though implementing it is harder than I thought and the longer I leave it the harder it gets due to finances.

to sum it up, basically it is a Static Caravan. Not on a holiday park obviously but on land where I may have some freedom, whether it is my own land or rented. I have seen land around here being rented for around £200 a year, which seems very reasonable! But it is a bit more complicated then simply getting land a plonking a caravan on it. Planning permission is needed for a static caravan, then I will have to have it wired to the grid (not that I intend to depend on the grid, but may need mains electricity to begin with), and have water installed. I guess it depends how far I am willing to go.

If I want to keep working, then the land will have to be fairly close to public transport since I don't drive, so that makes it more complicated.

the ultimate goal is to remove my self from the grid, and the whole system for that matter. I spent most of my life in Asia and still have a beautiful house on 11 acres on land in the mountains of india. While I was there we didn't have mains electricity or running water. We just had solar panels and a generator, and got our water from the rain . Most of our food came from the land as well. It is now grown into the Indian Centre of Biodynamic Farming.

    ICHOR Biodynamic Farm

    The Ichor Foundation

Artist At Work at Ichor, India

( I am not the artist, but let's just say I am "associated" with him )

I could always just go back to India. But I would like to see if it is possible to do the same thing in the UK. But to do that, I am going to have to play "their" game and get cash together.

Well so far this has just been a long rant, so sorry about that. Though has anyone got experience with the kind of thing i am thinking about?

Perhaps we can start a new thread for alternative lifestyles?

    We feel your pain

Well put. Sorry I don't have any great advice on implementing your plan, but here is a link to a company that has lots of stuff for going off the grid. It's a long way from you, but maybe you can find their items locally once you find out what you need.
Real Goods - Solar and Renewable Energy - Eco Household and Products for Green Living

Careful that you don't get "CNN" syndrome. There was actually a medical case where a daughter went to spend some time in Jerusalem, and her mom decided to keep up with her by watching CNN. The woman developed so many stress related illnesses her doctor told her she had to quit watching...the point is the media is designed to pull you in to a state of fear and concern in order to keep you watching, and all of their content in almost all cases is of issues over which you have no control. The world does seem crazy and out of control based on what we see and hear on the media, but when we focus on family, friends and a more local microcosm, things often reveal themselves to be more sane and controllable. (Unless you have insane friends and family, of course.)

A paradigm that often works is to treat each day as a deck of cards, from which you are dealt one or more hands, and play each one to the best of your ability. Focus on the controllable. (If you get to rant, I get to preach ) Gas prices up? Maybe it's time to get a bicycle, move closer to work, or develop a skill that allows you to work from home...that kind of solution-oriented thinking.
I like your idea about the static caravan. It would get you out of the range of the media, and into the countryside where you are surrounded by the beauty of creation, rather than the nonsense of man. I myself have a place in Jackson Hole overlooking the Teton mountain range. Every day when I get up I am totally surprised and awed by the beauty of creation. Then I turn on the TV and "find out" how awful things are...in that setting I can simply turn the tv back off, or turn it to a music channel, and creation seeps back in. Sounds like India was like that for you.

Anyway, best of luck, and maybe we are still a little short of the panic point!

Thanks for the preach I'll check that website out!

CNN syndrome shouldn't be a problem since I don't watch TV and avoid the radio and all other forms of media propaganda

I'm a webmaster by trade and have always worked from home until last year when I began working for a friend to expand his business into ecommerce. But I am the self confessed worst paid webmaster in the world! lol... I could charge alot more but it is only a local business.

and I am a very keen cyclist! When I lived in holland I would cycle 14km to work and back every day but it is TOO DANGEROUS to cycle on the roads in the UK! I tried for the first few weeks I moved here but after a few near death experiences I quit and moving closer to work means moving to the city I hate the city!

So my current situation has me kind of trapped... but I now realise that the problem is my unwillingness to leave my friends... If I want this plan to move forward I guess I am going to have either charge more or start working for myself again. hmm... that sucks. Especially since the idea is to try and leave the system behind, but I guess I am going to have to work the system to get out of it. Now the question is how much money do I need to pull it off...

        Worse before Better

Those in the world who thrive on the negative and seek to justify their existence by control of others, making themselves better buy making others worse, and basically trying to control an uncontrollable world, put out a lot of propaganda most all of it negative.

When we buy into the fear and despair of that we play their game, by their rules.
When we stay focused on the positives in our lives and working towards solutions, we play Gods game by its rules (not pushing religion just the universal energies).

I personally see the world heading for a paradine shift to the positive.
This I don't think will happen easily, those focused on the negative will fight tooth and nail every step of the way to keep what they think is theirs.

We have choices in our everyday lives that steer us as individuals and as a world, if we choose to focus on the negative guess what we bring about, if we focus on the positives (no matter how small) we push the energy on the planet that direction.

Many of us on this forum are working towards things that may free us from the slavery to the world power brokers, as well as clean up our planet. The best of luck and Gods speed to all of us.

Transform yourself into loving, so that we may transform the world into loving.

          Wonderful, Tarkus

          Sephiroth,

I encourage you taking a look at Project Camelot | The Big Picture

I think that all of these signs we are observing are the symptoms of recovery from illness! Because we all know that the current capitalistic system cannot and will not survive, and only a system based on cooperation and sharing and love will. So in order to establish such a system, the capitalistic system must collapse.

Oil price, Gold price. Global warming, Earthquakes and so on are the signs of a great change, lets keep our attitude positive in these times of transformation people.

BTW, Goerge Green and others advice not keeping dollars or any kind of cash anymore, and keeping Gold and Silver instead, because it seems the the total economy of the world is in the verge of great collapse, so money will be of no or little value maybe in the coming years.

Elias, I agree! In the words of the Beatles, "Money can't buy me love!"

I am trying to move away from a system that relies on money, and possibly use the experience to encourage others to do likewise.

I could just opt out and run away to India but that wouldn't help anyone except myself. If i can go down the route I have planned, I can clear a path so that others may follow if they choose.

But if I had a million (soon to be worthless) pounds, I would purchase a large amount of land and attempt to establish a commune/ity with people who have a similar ideal and vision for the future.

But right now I barely have enough cash to make ends meet so there goes that plan!

Don't suppose anyone here wants to hire a bloody good webmaster?

Tarkus - Thank you for your reply. It has calmed my mind and yes, best of luck and god speed to us all!

                Great points everyone!

Sephiroth: Believe me, I have also felt that "panic" and I also have stopped giving into the media reports. They only feed the fear they themselves instilled in us! Remember Y2K? So many people thought we were doomed and wanted to hide in something short of bomb shelters! I, on the other hand, spent that 1999 New Year's eve celebrating in Disneyland!

I completely agree with Tarkus in that we are experiencing a "healing crisis" or sorts. The darkest hour is just before dawn....

                  Hi Seph,

I have the same goal as you, to get off the grid and get away from "needing" money to do anything. I eventually hope to get some land and establish myself there, and I suppose like you, I would welcome anyone who wished to do the same.

It may be difficult to do this in the UK as land there is almost nonexistant
But here in Australia we have what the locals call "The GAFFA". The Great Australia *@#? All. (Sorry about the language) Basically all the space one could want. And it's not all that far away from "civilization". I'm going to look into seeing if the Government has any specials going as they tend to do this every now and again. Parcels of land that they have no need for.

People tend to forget that Australia is roughly they same size as the US and most of it is not occupied. The final develpement of these types of technologies will make it considerably easier to live in these out of the way places and allow people to not have to worry about power requirements. All we would have to worry about is where to put the pub.

                  All the best,

                    Energy treadmill

                    S,
I understand your plight. You must endeavor to stay positive. Keep moving forward and find a way to research your way out of this energy spiral we are all caught up in.
The greed that drives this energy crisis is not new. Keep on thinking free and you will find a way. Forgive when its over but never forget. That precept will help us not get fooled again by the bad guys!

Australia sounds great!!! Similar to the situation in india... despite it having a HUGE population, most of the land is "uninhabited" so it is easy enough to come by.

Like you say this is the problem in the UK... all the land belongs to someone. and even if you buy land it is still property of the Queen!

I think I may have to bide my time and make the right choices to steer my fate in the best direction....

Thank you everyone for your support!

It's Never a Good Time to Panic...

                        Hi folks,

For years now, I have had the same concerns as Sephiroth. Hundreds of times, I have asked this question in my meditations "is it time to worry, now?" The answer is ALWAYS "no". I finally quit asking!

Contentment is fine, but action requires agitation

I think that those who are upset and worried make better activists. We don't live on an island we all live in the same boat. We must do something together if we want change, want to stop these terrible things from happening.

And imo, grass roots activism on a scale never seen before is what is gonna be needed to change things. It's time to wake up to the horrors being done in "your" name, so you can help stop it.

You know, no one, even the Progressives on the left, want to hear that the U.S. Air Force has "accidentally" bombed several wedding celebrations in Afghanistan in the last year or so: Killing several hundreds of people just in these instances... Many thousands of innocent civilians have died as the result of bombing in Afghanistan alone (....supposedly the "already won" war) due to "precision" bombing.

Obama, The Prince Of Bait-And-Switch By John Pilger « Dandelion Salad

Since our conquering that nation in 2002, poppy cultivation went from zero back up to largest in the world (what heroin is made from). There are reports in Russian newspapers from Generals that their military intelligence agencies have proof that the U.S. military uses its cargo planes to help move the heroin out of the country... They are planning to provide these proofs at a U.N. general assembly "soon" (no date given).

....It is too horrible to contemplate: "Our" military bombing weddings, killing whole families in the midst of their most loving celebration? ... "Our" country creating the largest manufacturing base of heroin in the world? Yet it is happening; and has been reported on in the foreign press, by many including John Pilgar. But you won't see it on the U.S. mainstream media... Perhaps cause they don't want to "bum anyone out"? Lol, they will horrify you and scare the pants off of you on any number of subjects they WANT you to worry about, so that doesn't seem to be the reason.

Personal tranquility is important. But don't forget we are all linked together, and the pain and suffering the U.S. causes in other countries will affect us here in our homes someday. Don't forget that karma comes from what you do towards others as well as how you treat yourself. I'm frankly disgusted by new-age ideals that imply that personal happiness is all that matters: What matters is making a world where those persons presently living under threat of American bombs in Afghanistan can "feel good" about themselves too, and not worry that their family will be obliterated by impersonal bombs sent from a country that has no right to even be there.

Don't stick your head into the sand, or lose hope because it all appears hopeless, either.... That's what they want you do. The answer is to help. Join an activist group, which ever appeals to you most, and try to change things.

This will make you feel better.

                              Seph..

I really don't think things are that bad. We are not on the verge of apocolypse. I beleive the current downfalls in society are just the last ditch efforts of the few who can profit from us. They know a change in mentallity is coming. People are not going to consume on a global basis any longer. People are not going to buy energy in the same fashion. They are not going to travel by the same means. Power and energy production will become a personal responsibilty like taking the trash out or picking your tomatoes off the vine.

It is important to maintain a certian standard of independance. And if you feel the need to relocate to acheive that, then do it. Watch where you go though. You would not buy or rent land in area that is or has the possiblity of being governed by greed. You would not want attempt Free Energy Generation in an area which violence is acceptable or easy to cover.

If you can't buy or rent land that is located in COOP (A group of people buying bulk energy for a reduced rate) type area then look at the viabilty of creating one once there. And powering it. Or maybe do it where your at now, if you can. To take control to some extend gives lots of satification and hope.

More than anything don't panic yourself into a rash decision. If your frustrated with the current situation Fight Back. Show your work off. Show people every chance you get that these things WE weirdo's build REALLY WORK. Let them know that consumption of energy is a lie. And do it loudly. Do it with a little pride and a lotta love for the people who say your fake.

I find alot of joy in getting thrown out of green energy conferences for an unexplainable device. I really love being called a HOAX in front of a group of people watching somthing that works. Seeing people with questions in there eyes while the security or police drag me out of the building.

These things can make difference and it does feel good to take an amount of control away from them.

If anything people will rememeber you and your work if they run accrossed somthing similiar later. It may be the confirmation they need to see to head in the right direction.

I don't fear the suppresion that alot of people report. I welcome it. I am begging for it. I WANT A GOOD BEATING!!!. I NEED A BULLIT HOLE IN ME!!!!
This would be great confirmation for me.

You might not be half insane, but you still sound like you want some control over whats happening. And we all do. Find a way NO MATTER WHAT to GET IT.

You'd be supprised how your views will change once you have...

                              Cheers
