  • making a coil with telephone wire?

I wanna make me a coil, but all I have local is home depot and radio shack.

think I could use tele wire? It's 24 gauge i believe with 8 strands @ 1000'. I would take the outer sheath off that holds all the wires together but every wire would still have a plastic insulation on it. will having the coating on all the wires affect the performance of the coil?

it's kinda cheap. like 100 bucks for 1000' with 8 strands.

I was wantin to build an air core coil to use as a solid state oscillator for using in the imhotep oscillator.

do you think that having a huge coil like this would allow me to light MANY bulbs?

I want to build something larger than my fans that will make lotsa elec to use.

I was also thinking of wrapping it around a larger core such as a 6-8" core so that I could in the future wrap back around it more wire in the torroid fashion.
But maybe it would be better to have a smaller core so that I can create more wraps?

anyhow lotsa questions. thanks. also i was thinking of how great it would be if it works to use this wire. simply because it's common in most all cities, phone wire in large spools.
If you've made it this far then I've finally quit rambling.

My oppinion is that the teli wire insulation is too thick. Any system you try to build would become very bulky.

      24 Ga wire insulation varys

Telephone wire is typically 24 gauge. But insulation varys dependent on application.

        Re Wire

        Hi
I live also in an Area in Canada where thing are hard to come by.
However I can give you a Tip since I was in the same Boot Go and see your local Motor rewind shop they will have all sizes of the correct wire for you
        Hope that helps.

          Hi wantfreeenergy,

Here is a handy web site for the type of wire for your needs -
