  • bridge rectifier question.

i have my wfc system setup with a high voltage alternator, till now i have been using 1 diode per phase which has given good results but now i want to upgrade to a full wave bridge rectifier. only problem is i just cant get a 3 phase bridge rectifier where i am without paying twice the value of the part in courier fees. i can get single phase ones no problem only trouble is the wiring of 3 of them to get my two wire dc out. do i just use the neutral from alternator and wire it across the 3 bridge rectifiers with each phase going to a separate bridge rectifier? it sounds like it should work or is there a better way. bearing in mind i am targeting around 500 volts with quite low amps.

Here is what your looking for.....

    3 Phase Basics

Btw, just in case your not aware of it, when you put ac in to a bridge rectifier, you need to multiply the ac voltage by 1.414 to get dc output. So if you put 120 ac in to the bridge the dc output voltage will be 169.60 volts.

    Have fun.

thanks for that. the extra boost in dc output once rectified will also be handy as i'm aiming to really get this thing humming. pretty sure i will be one of the few cars on the road with 3 phase power
