There are so many different ideas in here. I have not been able to read all the posts.

It seems like most everyone is talking about different experiments.

Are there any devices that someone like myself (don't have time to experiment or build my own) can buy that will absolutely increase gas mileage on my car?

i have 2 suggestions for you. 1 is a fuel heater this is just a coil of copper tube that you run your fuel thru before it goes into your efi or carby, it just uses the heat in your engine bay to warm the fuel making it expand slightly and more volatile. this is dead simple to built 30 mins to make and fit. pair this up with a hydroxy booster there are alot of different types out there that can be bought reasonably cheap. although its alot more fun to build your own. i have a 2.5 litre car that can whip a toyota prius as far as fuel economy goes my hydroxy setup i have owes me 6000$ at this stage so as you can see its up to you how crazy you want to go. for 500$ you should be able to get 40% effiency gain without risking your engine.

$6,000? Is that really correct, or do you have an extra zero in there by error? What type of device are you using, what mpg are you consistently achieving, and what is the measured lpm of Hydroxy output?

Must be quite a monster! Any photos?

its my interpretation of stan meyers principles. and yes it is a monster boot mounted and very efficiant i'm still ironing bugs out of the system though. 1 amp through the system can give anywhere from 1 lpm to 12 lpm keeping it at the upper output levels can be tricky at the best of times. but i'm getting to grips with it now and really enjoying the massive boost in torque its giving
(i can take off in 4th gear from idle) 50% saving in petrol is achievable all day everyday i have built the whole system hoping i could get it to cruise at 55mph on water alone alas i'm not there yet. probably owes me more than
6000$ its best to stop keeping receipts or it kills the fun.

If you try acetone, use the high quality stuff that you can purchase from a beauty supply company, rather than the stuff sold at hardware stores.

The computer in the car has a good change screwing up any potential better mpg you are trying to get.
It's about the senors and the air/fuel mix going through the fuel injection.
I know it can be a problem but someone else will have to give you the details on how to work around the problem. Your mpg could decrease.

Reducing the mpg isn't the goal, it's cost per mile that's the goal.
If gasoline was $0.01 per gallonn, you would not care what your mpg was.

E85 is cheap, thus reduces your cost per
I put in 2 gallons of E85 last time I got gas, making my tank about 50%
regular and 50% E85. Seems ok. If you try e85 you are suppose to go
slowly a gallon at a time in the tank. I got bold.
Most car computers after something like ~1997-96 can handle a percentage
of ethanol ..
The propaganda tells you, oh don't do it, bad things happen.
Well if bad things happen why do like 8-10 states not even label E10 or E15 gasoline as E10 or E15 ..? Are they destroying the cars in those states?

Good luck with your use of acetone. I have been testing it since this summer and have had good results. I searched and read a lot of sites before beginning, including the naysayers. The following link has some good details on acetone and alcohol in fuel. It is from the same site that wpage referenced so you may have seen this already.

Now to my results and understanding that no 2 tanks of gas are used in the exact same driving patterns. I am using a mix of equal parts acetone, xylene, and diesel, 3oz each per 10 gallons as recommended in the above site. My mileage has been 21 mpg in a 6 cylinder Toyota 4Runner and driving my typical routine. I have recently gone through 2 tanks without adding the mix to reaffirm my baseline mileage which has been consistently 18.5 mpg. An increase of around 10 to 15 percent. I have been buying my gas from the same station which does not guaranty the same quality but hopefully adds some consistency. My initial test were done with acetone from the hardware store which is not 'pure' acetone (it contains additives to reduce the volatility) but it was all I could find at the time. As Rick points out you want to use pure acetone and I now have a gallon from the beauty supply and will be starting a new round of testing.

Yeah I am in the middle of testing this 3 part mixture also. Will be filling the tank here soon to see what the results were. Have an older van with no computer so I have to check the mileage when I fillup. 33 gallon tank in it.
the first check I did with it was only a few miles and the mileage dropped. Normally get 6 to 6.5 and it went down to 5. A 40 foot diesel motor home gets better than that sheesh.

400% Increase

Sept. 4, 08. 400% EPA MPG Accomplished
--Behindbarsbimbo 15:01, 4 Sep 2008 (EDT) Increased to 1.25 Oz. Acetone per gallon of gas. Increased 02 percentage to sensor from 5.2 to 6.1. Highway test revealed 89MPG. EPA factory is 22MPG. 400% EPA factory is 88MPG. Hydrocarbons up from privious 144ppm to 186ppm. Fuel/air richening was obviously accomplished. Burns dirtier, BUT at DOUBLE the previous 45MPG, and QUADRUPLE EPA factory 22MPG. Fail in Idaho for a 1985 is 220ppm. Passed wonderfully. With it's 20 gallon tank, hwy. range is now 1700+ miles per tank. NOTE: Ran 89 octane gas this time. With the near 1% acetone mixture, adding to that, should be about 90 octane. As more acetone is used it is likely compression pressure goes up. Higher octane seemed to be a good bet, even though I had no octane knock with the 87 octane gas.

I have been testing acetone in two different vehicles.

3 oz. per 10 gallons.

Both are running smoother and stronger.

The one with a computer has NOT had a measurable increase OR decrease in MPG.

The one with a carburetor (and no computer) has been getting 10% better mpg.

So now I will either adjust the computer, or create a small exhaust leak and continue testing.

It looks like it may be good to test at a higher acetone ratio also.

Any thoughts on if this may damage components of the engine or fuel system?

Try a EFIE

You should try using a EFIE to lean out your vehicle while using the acetone. Also try adding some diesel to your mix 1oz per ten gallons of gas

Sorry, what your asking for is like the patient that goes to the Dr. and wants a pill to make them feel better. Don't want to hear "quit smoking, diet/excercise, etc".Not being critical, its just generally not that easy. However, there is an adjustment you can make, it will DEFINETLY give you mileage improvements, (probably more than you will get unless you want to spend thousands of $ and hrs. experimenting) and the good news is it won't cost you ANYTHING! All you have to do is adjust that nut, the one just behind the steering wheel! Read up on pulse and glide, safe drafting techniques, etc. Practice them until they become automatic.Then your mileage, which will have improved considerably, (going from 40mpg to 60mpg is not uncommon!)will also be consistent. This will give you a more acurate way to measure your mileage, when trying to detirmine if any of these mechanical adjustments are actually improving your mileage.And you'll need that, because you'll be measuring SMALL gains.i.e. 1-3 mpg for each change you do, like increasing the tire pressure, acetone, etc.Read, study, learn, apply.Happy and safe motoring!
