    Electret Prep

Well i have decided on the following method to create the electret as all the stuff is available at kmart.
2cm no more than pie pan
Some sought of flat metal, maybe spatually or something
    Piece of card or plastic
    5 nuts 5 bolts

Basically card or plastic is going to act like a top over the pie dish. The small piece of metal will be bolted in the midle to it. Now as well there is something to hook the hv up to. Next put the other 4 nut and bolt in the bottom and thats it. I say four otherwise it wont sit straight on the element.
I'll get the stuff today hopefully and make it tomorrow. Two weeks later hopefully its and electret

      Good luck!

I found an aussie soap supplier online where I can get pure wax from. I'll keep an eye on your progress! Don't forget to short it out while it's curing or it'll blow up... Don't want that. Also, pulse with hv dc, ie if using ignition coil you want to use a hv diode or bridge rectifier.. Otherwise it will push - pull.

        No success

I went to the shops had little success. The type of pan i wanted they no longer make. It looks like i am going to have pay a call to the hardware store. I guess thats not all bad in that its highly like i would want to make more than one or probably would need to make than one to get right. Maybe a descent rig is not such a bad thing. It wont be happening today though or tommorow. I guess next when the shops open after christmas.

          Glass container

When I make one, I'm thinking of using a small oven, having a glass dish with Alfoil and a screw or something on the bottom, a tin lid floating on top of the wax. Connect hv source and earth to these, and run for a long time, slowly decreasing the temperature over a day or two..

            Or

Maybe drill a hole in the perspex / glass bowl, put a bolt in it with tin lid on bottom. Sacrifice the bowl.

            A la casserole dish Electret.

              Excellent thinking

Thats excellent thinking. That would be a greatway of decreasing the temperature over time optiming the internal organization. Ive been thinking about it and might just get a perspex tube with a cap in the end. Put a bolt through it. Put a circle of metal down the middle to the bottom with the bold through it and nut. Get a lit for th perspx. Buy a longer bolt and get a couple of nuts that way you cadjust the level of the top metal disk in case you want a think or thick one.

                White rosin

@ dmonarch - I've ordered the Carnauba (1kg) and beeswax (100g), got the missus some loofah's to make up the order too. What sort of 'white rosin' are you going to use, and where did you get it? Thanks in advance :-)

                    Rosin

I havnt gottent to that part yet. I realised only yesterday that it was required. I was just going to go to the sports store and get the basedbas stuff im shore it would cheaper than buying violin stuff. They would probably consider a specialty

                      Here's a link

To a PDF, how to make an Electret. I can't open it on my phone so I don't know if it's any good..

                      PIRA Bibliography -

Copied wrong link. Still, it's on that page :-)

                        Supressed?

There are about 5-10 'good' web pages on Electrets on the internet. I've spent 3 DAYS searching thru at least a THOUSAND probably more pages thru google, and 5-10 is all... oh, there are an abundance of microphone pages.. But actual Electrets? 10 max. Any other 'promising' pages require your credit card and thus your address.

Smacks of suppression and control of information. Type in 'bedini' and 'schoolgirl' and the hits greatly outnumber any combination of 'Electret' 'rosin' 'resin' 'wax' 'Carnauba' 'water-white' 'dielectric' etc etc etc......

The mere absence of information makes me super keen to research 'Electret'... Hope some people follow me and dmonarch. Strange how many helicopters been flying overhead recently.. Even at work. Hope against hope I'm just being 'paranoid'

                          Helicopters

Ps, by 'many' helicopters, I mean as opposed to 1 each day or each other day when I first moved into my place, before I signed up to this site, to seeing or hearing at LEAST 2 DIRECTLY overhead EVERY day, at work or at home...

                          'it's probably nothing'

I wasn't aware there was so little out there. Try searching the patent data base, with google.com/patents

My favorite electret is made by applying a positive HV corona to teflon tape, through steam. The corona drives OH ions into the teflon. The drawback, though, is this electret is a monopole - only positive.

I think the commercial version uses a flourine ion.

                            Good luck with your project!

                              Charged form

Does anyone know if a charged form be it positivly or nagativly would be able to be coated in a thin coat of resin or wax without loosing its charged. I was just thinking if you could do this then it would be a pretty acitive way of structuring water. Charge a fractal form, coat in wax or resin and put at the bottom of a water jug. After looking at how water structures maybe such a shape as a pentagon, or hexagon.

                                Charge form

I was thinking i guess you could just charge the form. Put it in a vacuum bag and seal it that way no charge leakage. Be the easiest way
