      • HI ALL

More "science"linking the Aust floods to "global warming"
        The Queensland floods

When these kind of extreme events happen, people ask "Did global warming cause this flood?" as if the answer should be yes or no. It's more appropriate to ask does global warming have an effect on these types of events? The scientific evidence indicates yes. As temperatures have risen, we've observed more water vapour in the air. More water vapour leads to more extreme rain events. Over the last few decades, we've observed an increase in the number of extreme precipitation events. And we expect the number of extreme precipitation and flooding events to increase as global warming continues.

It's times like this that I can't help thinking of the words of NOAA scientist Deke Arndt, "Climate trains the boxer but weather throws the punches". Weather will always throw these random punches at us. Occasionally it gets in a lucky punch that knocks us off our feet. But what we're doing is training weather to throw harder punches at us and more often. That's what is being observed and that's what we expect to see more of in the future.

I only glanced over a bunch of the mail randomly so I certainly don't

I wouldn't underestimate the lengths either side of this debate would go to to "state" their case. I'd want to see more than a few (of the thousands) to be proven genuine. • Personally, my belief is that it doesn't matter if global warming is true or false because if it gets HOT or gets COLD, I know one thing... I want to breathe clean air so the issue I have is clean energy technologies so that we can decrease global health issues due to serious pollution, destroying the quality of our water ways and air, etc....

I believe there is no debate as to the fact that we are making our world dirtier and dirtier and it gets worse every year. Does any of that make the world warmer or colder? Let's say it goes either way...that means we need to still solve the pollution problem no matter what the impact is on global temperature. Even if the temperature stays the same for the next million years, CLEAN is desirable compared to dirty.
This is the only point that really matters. Being from Los Angeles, I can tell you that I don't care if it's getting hotter or colder. I care that I breathe in nasty brown air every day!

Have you considered that perhaps it is time for you to move to a more healthy location? It is admirable to press for effective changes, no matter where you live, that will lead to cleaner air, land, and water, but California has been the perceived leader in initiating cleanup and anti-pollution mandates for many years now and still remains one of the most significant problem areas in the United States. As Bugler points out, California had the right idea when they introduced legislation that would have resulted in the electric car replacing internal combustion vehicles. See if you can find out exactly why, and who was responsible for, that legislation being scuttled, and you will then understand why you are in the situation that Californians find themselves in today. Then, if you find that there is little hope that you can reverse this policy and right the wrong that was committed, you must seriously consider going someplace where your voice does matter.

                    Best regards,

                    Rick

                      Recipes for Disaster (2008)

                      Recipes for disaster
Recipes for Disaster : Passionate Eye Showcase : CBC Newsworld

Filmmaker John Webster does not want his children to have any cause for complaint that he did not personally do anything to reduce the effect of climate change. So he announces drastic measures to reduce his family’s CO2 production, including not to have a car or to buy products made of plastic for one year while attempting to retain their middle class suburban lifestyle. Soon, John’s wife and his two little sons feel the consequences of the father’s biodynamic strategies. It becomes a tough job finding adequate hygiene products like toothpaste and toilet paper in the supermarket. Even corn flakes pose a problem due to the plastic free gifts inside the box.

The everyday things that we don’t do or can’t help doing, make up recipes for disaster. In this comedy of errors, the Webster family find themselves testing their values, will power and happiness.

This well paced and humorous film documents the comedy of errors that result from a do-gooder’s well-intentioned plans that at times seem impossible to implement and at other times stretch the patience of his family to breaking point. Yet, the film gives a surprising demonstration of what the individual can do to avert a climatic catastrophe – even if one can’t help thinking that it is John Webster’s marriage that is on the verge of suffering a catastrophe throughout this difficult year.

                      • Obamas long awaited plan unfolds

Obama served as one of 12 directors on the Joyce Foundation board from July 1994 until December 2002, according to a Joyce foundation spokesman. But it was only in 2000 and 2001 that the foundation gave money to the Climate Exchange -- funds deemed by the exchange itself to be fundamental to its successful launch, and in fact to its early survival.

In 2000, according to Joyce Foundations records, it allocated $347,600 to the J.L. Kellogg School of Management at Northwestern University "to design a mid-western pilot program for the voluntary trading of carbon dioxide and other emissions that cause climate change, with the goal of answering methodological questions and resolving operational issues."

Click here to see the 2000 Joyce Foundation Annual Report.

According to the President's Letter she signed in that year's annual report, DiPerna declared that "One of our first Millennium grants supports the design of a pilot phase for a carbon dioxide emissions trading market, called the Chicago Climate Exchange. Long discussed, the ability of the marketplace to create incentives for reducing carbon dioxide emissions has not been tested."

The money went to Environmental Financial Products, LLC, a firm owned by Richard Sandor, a visiting professor at Northwestern who was formerly head of the Chicago Mercantile Exchange, and today is known as one of the founding geniuses of commodity trading derivative markets. Sandor had already gained a reputation for designing successful cap-and-trade markets for controlling emissions of sulfur dioxide, a gas that produces acid raid.

Efforts to reach Sandor, who was traveling, were unsuccessful and a list of questions for him submitted to the exchange were not answered.

The initial idea, according to accounts from the time, was to have a carbon-trading system ready to implement when the Kyoto Protocol was being signed in 2000, on the assumption that the U.S. would join the pact. President Clinton signed the document, even though the U.S. Senate had voted 95-0 to show its rejection of the treaty.

                        • Latest Report: 2010 Tied for "Warmest Year" with 1998

                          Hi Folks,

Here is an article from the BBC on this. I have extracted a few clips from the article for perspective. (Color added for emphasis.)

This is the opening statement in the article:

The World Meteorological Organization (WMO) concludes 2010 was 0.53C warmer than the average for the period 1961-90 - a period commonly used as a baseline.

And here is a statement from the middle of the article:

The possibility that 2010 would emerge as the warmest year on record was raised by scientists after the year began with a period of El Nino conditions - unusually warm waters in the eastern Pacific Ocean, which transfer heat from the ocean to the atmosphere.

However, a switch to the opposing La Nina conditions halfway through the year cast doubt on whether the record would be broken.

And here is a statement near the end of the article:

The variation between El Nino and La Nina can alter the global temperature by half a degree or so.

                          What can I say?

BBC News - 2010 hits global temperature high

On that note... The Earth is about 4.6 billion years old, I've read.

The most crucial data used in Climategate is from 1961 to present, 2011.

                              That's 50 years.

                              50 years / 4.6 billion years = 1.08695652 × 10-8

Less than a millionth of one percent of the world's climate history in total is the data sample size we are using to predict the onset of global warming and yet our leaders tell us their data is accurate and that indeed we have caused this and therefore we must pay, and in order to pay properly a one world currency is the best method.

IMHO If a person considers the mathematics it is nearly impossible to consider the findings, the data, of any value wahtsoever.

That, Gerenfleam, is believing a small piece of evidence, and a very very small one at that.

The best cash grab in the world is the one the people want to believe in, and feel morally right participating in.
