I can't speak on Patrick Moore's relations with the energy companies, but on Greenpeace's own website, they list him as one of the multiple founders of the organization:

He is a founding member as admitted on their current website - that is a fact for sure. All else, I can't verify. But he is a founder of Greenpeace, not "masquerading" as one and is denying man made climate change.

Although Mr. Moore played a significant role in Greenpeace Canada for several years, he did not found Greenpeace. Phil Cotes, Irving Stowe, and Jim Bohlen founded Greenpeace in 1970. I guess 16 years of NO WARMING plus the advent of cheap "shale gas" as a means to lower "carbon emissions" is finally going to be reflected in EU Climate Policy changes. Why bother spending a fortune on Wind and Solar when cheap shale gas can lower emissions much more and produce base-line power 24/7, which Wind and Solar can never do?

Never say never, lol, as it stands today I can buy a 1Kw plug and play grid tie solar system for well under $1/watt. Solar power follows Moores Law and we can expect it to drop by at least 1/2 in 5 years which does not apply to any hydrocarbon based power systems. Thus we already know the future and it is solar hands down.

As a Power Engineer, an expert in energy systems, it is apparent that no hydrocarbon based energy system can possibly compete. You see I look at the systems as a whole and nobody seems to have considered what it is going to cost to clean up the mess they have created. That is by law the producers are required to return the "environment" back to the state they found it, to reclaim it. It's kind of comical isn't it?, people talk of how "cheap" energy is but it is conditional on the fact that they will not be held responsible for their own actions. I really have to wonder when people who claim to be responsible adults are going to start acting like they are.

So the question remains, Why bother spending a fortune on Wind and Solar when cheap shale gas can lower emissions much more?. Because we do not have to spend a fortune on solar power and we already know intuitively that shale gas is just another disaster in the making... it just hasn't happened yet. I mean we do know this don't we?, we know the corporations will come in with a wrecking ball and after all the smoke clears everyone will be wondering... who is going to clean up this mess?. Well you are through the taxes you pay and believe me when I say you cannot afford it nor can our children.

The future in my opinion is decentralized power on a regional scale with Wind and Solar coupled to micro-CHP (combined heat and power). With smart networked meters thousands of megawatts of capacity could be brought online remotely within 15 minutes which no single power station on the planet that can match. This regional grid is then tied to the new UHV DC transmission lines for distribution across North America. The thing to keep in mind is that the concept of "cheap" is relative because one way or another someone must pay from start to finish for the energy we utilize. The real cost is seldom if ever as it seems.

The Fukushima nuclear disaster is a prime example, who is going to pay the many trillions of dollars to clean up this global mess?, who is going to pay for the compensation to billions of people who will be effected?. The answer?.... nobody because there not going to clean it up nor will they pay everyone who will be effected by their actions. They don't sound all that responsible or competent now do they?, the real truth always comes after the fact.

As far as the climate is concerned, I or anyone else does not know what is happening, it is all heresay. One thing for sure is we know why there is more ice in antartica than the artic, where the arctic is receeding and the antartic is growing in ice.

The water temperature below the antartic is higher than ever recorded, but, there is more ice, why, pure science, look it up, warmer water freezes quicker than cooler water, the facts are the facts.

Why all this is happening? I nor any other person can answer that, but I would put a guess on the very deep drilling, fracking and god knows what else, etc etc etc that is going on with our planet, and all for greed of a few who want more money than they ever could spend, it is all a game for them at the expense of the rest of the world.

Exactly, so why would any responsible adult claim nuclear power is safe when they know as a fact that major accidents will occur based on past experience and that the clean up will be impossible. It is completely lacking in credibility in my opinion and is irresponsible if not completely insane. If they cannot deal with the aftermath of their actions then obviously they should not have done it in the first place. I find it very odd how people who claim to be so smart do things which are in no uncertain terms... stupid.

I have a solution, I would tell everyone who wants to buy nuclear power and everyone who is involved and responsible for it that should anything ever happen they as individuals will be 100% liable for all costs and be forced to clean it up themselves. They will be held 100% accountable for supporting nuclear power in every sense of the word. Now think about that, if you choose to buy or support nuclear power and something happens then you lose everything you own plus any income you will ever earn...is it still worth it?. I would say, So you think nuclear energy is the answer?, great you are now 100% accountable for life because I should not be held responsible or penalized for your stupidity. At which point we understand that none of them ever were responsible nor do they intend to be held accountable for anything ... fundamentally they have the mind set of a child.

Why all this is happening? Fracking is my nemesis, it is like a landfill or a landmine which gives the appearance of safety only because it is out of sight. However we know as a fact it's there and we know as a fact it is going to come back at some point in the future with a vengeance.
It's actually kind of comical when people try to debate this issue and I know quite a few people involved in the industry. A while back the topic came up at a social function and I "debated" fracking with them. It wasn't long and one left the room almost in tears and the others looked so stupid they really didn't know what to do with themselves. The fact is the people involved are for the most part ignorant and have given no thought what so ever to the consequences of their actions. The look on their face was consistent with that of a child with their hand caught in a cookie jar. Responsible adults.... no I think not.
