Well said Kippered.
Originally posted by rickoff;I also asked Martin what his thoughts were on the validity of global warming/climate change, and the effects of CO2. His response: There are very, very few absolute facts in science, and virtually none in climatological science.
"In ancient times, the CO2 concentration in the air has
been significantly higher than today, with
no dramatic impact on the temperature.
In the Eocene period (50 million years ago),
this concentration was 6 times larger than
now, but the temperature was only 1.5°C
higher.
In the Cretaceous period (90 million
years ago), the CO2 concentration was 7
times higher than today,
and in the
Carboniferous period (340 million years
ago), the CO2 concentration was nearly 12
times higher.
When the CO2 concentra-
tion was 18 times higher, 440 million years
ago (during the Ordovician period), glaciers
existed on the continents of both hemispheres
...The fastest temperature growth occurred in the early 20th
Century, and the maximum was reached around 1940. It was
then that the mountain and Arctic glaciers were shrinking vio-
lently, but their retreat from the record sizes (during the cold-
est part of Little Ice Age) had started 200 years earlier, around
1750, when no one even dreamed of industrial CO2 emis-
sions.
The Cosmic Ray Connection
The atmospheric temperature variations do not follow the
changes in the concentrations of CO2 and other trace green-
house gases. However, they are consistent with the changes in
Sun’s activity, which run in cycles of 11-year and 90-years’
duration. This has been known since 1982, when it was noted
that in the period 1000 to 1950, the air temperature closely
followed the cyclic activity of our diurnal star."
"...these cycles have been going on for thousands of years... all controlled by the Sun out there...
its all about magnetic fields and what the magnetic fields do...
on one side you see the ice caps melting, on the other side you see the ice caps growing!". - J.B.

Swimming through the fallacies!
So So So Many Fallacies Here In This Thread.......
I love pointing out fallacies, but there are far too many to point out right now!
Maybe another day. It is important to know what a fallacy is otherwise your argument is null and void. I can find an average of 10-15 fallacies in every newspaper - used to be a great game in Logic class at High School.
Ok - Check out:

I met this guy last year and found him to be anything but an alarmist. I think he points out some interesting stuff, for the Aussie's here - he was Australian of the year.

Cheers Rick, I think that's why the people pushing for AGW had to change the wording on their talking points from "Global Warming" to "Climate Change", which is a term so nebulous as to be meaningless. It's funny if you think about it--the climate is changing all the time! It's what people used to call "The Weather".

The Other Shoe Drops
Hi Folks,
Well, after the UK Met Office predicted that 2010 was going to be the "third warmest year since 1998" back at the end of November, the current headlines show that the year "ain't over 'til its over".
BBC News - Winter weather: December 'set to be coldest since 1910'
Christmas is one of coldest ever | The Sun |News
I don't suppose they will be asked to retract their "warming" predictions!

"third warmest year since 1998"
- I wonder how much money these amateurs get paid for pumping out utter lies and rubbish?
Can you believe these people are supposed to be experts in their field?
Hello Met Office? are you listening?...

Think about this and judge for yourself, there is an individual in the UK who has been forecasting the weather here and around the globe with an 85% accuracy record.
Piers Corbyn works in an undistinguished office in Borough High Street. He has no telescope or supercomputer. Armed only with a laptop, huge quantities of publicly available data and a first-class degree in astrophysics, he gets it right again and again.
Back in November, when the Met Office was still doing its "mild winter" schtick, Corbyn said it would be the coldest for 100 years. He seems to get it right about 85 per cent of the time and serious business people – notably in farming – are starting to invest in his forecasts. In the eyes of many punters, he puts the taxpayer-funded Met Office to shame. How on earth does he do it?- He studies the Sun.

Northern Ireland had its coldest day on record on Saturday 18th Dec 2010 with temperatures at Castle Derg climbing no higher than -11C, beating the previous record of -9C
He said that "Standard meteorology doesn't know what is hitting them this winter. These spells of very cold weather with snow and blizzards will go on and on and on this winter, including through the Xmas period and into January.
When asked how it was done he said that it was nothing to do with CO2, weather is driven by predictable particle and magnetic effects of the sun (and lunar modulations) and we at WeatherAction can predict when similar effects to sometime in the past will come again and thereby make these forecasts which are reliable 85% of the time.

based on his opinions, he offers us this warning...
'WeatherAction World RED WARNING for extreme weather 25-31 Dec'
"WeatherAction forecasted weeks ahead that there will be many dangerous weather events around the world in the period 25-31 Dec and specified a triple whammy of extreme events for Britain/NW Europe, NE/E USA and South/East Queensland Australia."
"The period 25-31 Dec 2010 is a Weather Action Red warning (World) period with top activity expected in sub-periods 25-27th Dec & 29/30th Dec."

If you don't like the weather in Maine, wait five minutes and you will likely see it change.
The weather can change quite abruptly here, and at certain times of the year, such as in October, the temperature can vary 60 degrees or more during the course of a single day. It's funny, too, because you hear people saying, "I've never seen anything like it," when of course they really have but have had time to forget the last occurrence.

A Blizzard of Lies
Sunday, December 26, 2010
A Blizzard of Lies in The New York Times
It’s Orwellian when cold is declared warmth. It’s deceitful and insulting when it occurs in the midst of a huge blizzard shutting down much of the northeast.
I would not even trust the date on the front page of The New York Times because the newspaper long ago lost touch with reality, with sanity, and, one can only assume, readers fleeing to other sources for the news.
When the oft-called “newspaper of record” chooses a day on which Mother Nature is demonstrating what tons of snow and chill air can do to a huge swath of the nation’s northeast with effects reaching Tallahassee, they are either trying to see just how stupid their readers are or doubling down on the global warming hoax they have disseminated since Jim Hansen of NASA’s Goddard Institute declared we’re all doomed back in 1988.

"Washington DC, Jan 27th 2009: NASA warming scientist James Hansen, one of former Vice-President Al Gore’s closest allies in the promotion of man-made global warming fears, is being publicly rebuked by his former supervisor at NASA.
Retired senior NASA atmospheric scientist, Dr. John S. (At last real science for an official entity)
Food and Ethanol Shortages Imminent as Earth Enters New Cold Climate Era
The Space and Science Research Center (SSRC), the leading independent research organization in the United States on the subject of the next climate change, issues today the following warning of imminent crop damage expected to produce food and ethanol shortages for the US and Canada:
Over the next 30 months, global temperatures are expected to make another dramatic drop even greater than that seen during the 2007-2008 period. As the Earth’s current El Nino dissipates, the planet will return to the long term temperature decline brought on by the Sun’s historic reduction in output, the on-going “solar hibernation.” ...
