      I noted the above report was from COPENHAGEN, Denmark, December 14, 2009

      Moe R -
      Very interesting to hear the reports of alarming, new 'danger's we face, goodness me... SOOT.. and now the CRYOSPHERE!!!

      Strangely I notice they switch their primary focus to Glaciers and how millions will die from lack of river water once they melt. It is sickening how they talk of helping the poor nations, when it is just another lever to frighten the masses into accepting their desperate lies!

      "Snow cover is diminishing, and glaciers from the Himalayas to the Alps are melting rapidly, with the greatest reductions in the Andes and the Rockies, the report shows. "

      "The melting of glaciers can cause extensive water shortages. Today, more than a billion people depend on water from the Himalayan plateau."

      "We should start by cutting emissions of short-lived drivers of climate change such as soot and ozone..."

      Searching for evidence to confirm the above claims, I found the following.

      Himalayan Glaciers Not Melting

      Submitted by Doug L. Hoffman on Fri, 11/13/2009 - 15:26

      According to a flurry of recent reports by the BBC and other mass media, the glaciers in the Himalayan mountains are melting at a furious pace. Of course this is taken as proof that climate change is still taking place at an ever accelerating rate, despite the fact the global temperatures have remained flat for the past decade. What, then, explains the rapidly retreating Himalayan glaciers? Nothing[, because the glaciers are not shrinking. A new report by a senior Indian glaciologist states that the glaciers remain frozen and quite intact, thank you.

      Raina's report
      draws on published studies and unpublished findings from half a dozen Indian groups who have analyzed remote-sensing satellite data or conducted on-site surveys at remote locations often higher than 5000 meters. While the report surveyed of a number of glaciers, two particularly iconic ones stand out.

      The first is the 30-kilometer-long Gangotri glacier, source of the Ganges River. Between 1934 and 2003, the glacier retreated an average of 70 feet (22 meters) a year and shed a total of 5% of its length. But in 2004 and 2005, the retreat slowed to about 12 meters a year, and since September 2007 Gangotri has been “practically at a standstill,” according to Raina's report.

      The second glacier, the Siachin glacier in Kashmir, is even more stable. Claims reported in the popular press that Siachin has shrunk as much as 50% are simply wrong, says Raina, whose report notes that the glacier has “not shown any remarkable retreat in the last 50 years.”

      These conclusions were based in part on field measurements by ecologist Kireet Kumar of the G. B. Pant Institute of Himalayan Environment and Development in Almora. Much like the hysteria about Greenland's ice cap, it seems reports of the glaciers' demise are a bit premature.

      According to a report in the journal Science, “several Western experts who have conducted studies in the region agree with Raina's nuanced analysis—even if it clashes with IPCC's take on the Himalayas.”
      The “extremely provocative” findings “are consistent with what I have learned independently,” says Jeffrey S. Kargel, a glaciologist at the University of Arizona, Tucson. Many glaciers in the Karakoram Mountains, on the border of India and Pakistan, have “stabilized or undergone an aggressive advance,” he says, citing new evidence gathered by a team led by Michael Bishop, a mountain geomorphologist at the University of Nebraska.

      Having recently returned from an expedition to K2, one of the highest peaks in the world, Canadian glaciologist Kenneth Hewitt says he observed five advancing glaciers and only a single one in retreat.

      Other researchers and noted experts have raised their voices in support of Raina's conclusions. According to Himalayan glacier specialist John “Jack” Shroder, the only possible conclusion is that IPCC's Himalaya assessment got it “horribly wrong.”

      One of the dire predictions that the IPCC report made was for water shortages in the region. “Our data indicate the Ganges results primarily from monsoon rainfall, and until the monsoon fails completely, there will be a Ganges river, very similar to the present river.” Glacier melt contributes only 3% to 4% of the Ganges's annual flow, says Kireet Kumar. Another piece of climate catastrophist propaganda debunked.

      A Review of the Raina Report
      Submitted by Doug L. Hoffman on Sun, 11/14/2010 - 14:34.

      Because of all the uproar over Dr. Raina's report, “Himalayan Glaciers – A State-of-Art Review of Glacial Studies, Glacial Retreat and Climate Change,” the government of India engaged Australian ice expert Cliff Ollier to perform a critical review.

      His conclusion?

      " Dr. Ollier, a professor at the School of Earth and Environment, University of Western Australia,
      has unequivocally pronounced Dr. Raina's work sound and his conclusions correct "

      ~~~
      "Snow cover is diminishing, and glaciers from the Himalayas to the Alps are melting rapidly"
      - hmmm, maybe we should help them out by collecting all this snow and storing it in our fridges?
      Thanks to Moe R for bringing more lies to light
      • Sweden’s Met Office
        Now we know the British MET office gets it wrong, but maybe the Swedish are better equipped to forecast any cold weather spells?
        The SMHI (Sweden’s Met Office) using 'more computer power' and 'high geographical resolution',
        proudly state the following on their website,
        The new scenarios show the effects of global warming with more details than before, thanks to more computer power and high geographical resolution.
        Extreme weather will be more common in Europe, heavy rain and heat waves will be more frequent and more intense than at present.
        New climate projections for severe weather situations in 100 years also show that truly cold days will virtually disappear.
        Truly cold weather, such as -10°C in Spain or -30°C in southern Sweden, is unlikely to occur in future.
        hmmm, so why was this not foreseen???
        Coldest December in Sweden in 110 years
        [/B]
        Published: 26 Dec 10 10:30 CET
        The last few days of the year look to be very cold throughout Sweden, according to a forecast by the Swedish meteorological agency SMHI.
        * Sweden deploys vintage trains to battle the snow (27 Dec 10)
        * Roads remain calm as Swedes heed warnings (27 Dec 10)
        * Swedish travel woes refuse to go on holiday (26 Dec 10)
        This means that several parts of Sweden, including the southern region Götaland and eastern Svealand, will have experienced the coldest December in at least 110 years.
              I wonder if the dead animals labeled as dead from freezing temps
                Habibullo Abdussamatov
                In a sharp rebuke to climate alarmists who believe human-generated carbon dioxide is responsible for causing catastrophic global warming, a Russian scientist has issued what amounts to a news flash announcing, "Sun Heats Earth!"
                Habibullo Abdussamatov, the head of space research at St. Petersburg's Pulkovo Astronomical Observatory in Russia, has published a paper in which he tracks sunspot activity going back to the 19th century to argue that total sun irradiance is the primary factor responsible for causing climate variations on Earth, not carbon dioxide.
                Moreover, Abdussamatov's analysis of sun-activity data has led him to conclude that the Earth is entering a prolonged cooling phase because sunspot activity is currently in a phase regarded as a "minimum."
                "Observations of the sun show that, as for the increase in temperature, carbon dioxide is 'not guilty,'" Abdussamatov wrote, "and, as for what lies ahead in the coming decades, it is not catastrophic warming, but a global and very prolonged temperature drop."
                  Hi Aaron, I have been following this trail and initially, it was Arkansas that got my attention with 5,000 red-winged blackbird deaths followed by another report of dead fish. The blame was focused on a bio-weapons storage plant nearby.
                  However, this is now being reported globally and is truly awful and bizarre!
                  Now it is happening in UK...
                  All these signs seem very reminiscent of biblical stories prior to earth changes, or deep volcanic activity?
                  I have no doubt we are going to see much more of this!
                  video and story here from BBC
                  NOTE: it seems that these massive crab deaths have occured in UK, for the last three winters, so it is more puzzling than ever!
                  • A step-change in Earth's climate outlook?
                    (from a CFACT article by Dennis Avery)
                    As Britain suffers through its third straight harsh winter, a British watchdog group is calling for an inquiry into the failed recent long-range weather forecasts of the British Meteorological Office. The Met Office has long been one of the leading promoters of man-made warming fears and therefore has tended to see warming around every corner.
                    Dr. Benny Peiser of the Global Warming Policy Foundation says, “The current winter fiasco is no longer a joke, as the economic damage to the British economy as a result of the country’s ill-preparedness . . . could reach $15 billion.”
                    The Met Office informed the government this summer that there was only a small chance of a severe winter in 2010/11, especially in the midst of a long global warming trend. Now, however, thousands of weary travelers have been stranded in European airports, while highway crews have lacked the sand and salt to keep the roads safe.
                            Well Ash, the evidence from above certainly indicates the curling and focusing of the jet stream onto the Eastern side of Ozzy to me!
                            Observing that satellite data on a daily basis, should give signs as to whether it is indeed 'stuck', and also first signs of it moving.
                            I understand that the 1973/74 floods were even higher than now, can you confirm that?
                            What is not clearly explained in these tv reports, is where all this water comes from. I've only heard of one river being blamed, the Brisbane River? A Google map showing the terrain would be worth viewing, i'll try to get a look at that tonight.
                            It seems there is a 39 year eclipse cycle that is responsible for this.
                            More bad news follows...
                            Piers Corbyn, astrophysicist of Weatheraction.com says these floods are caused by ‘stuck’ jet stream situations which depend on certain phases of the eclipse cycle and will continue through January. More floods are very likely this month and for one particular region our Indian Ocean Tropical Cyclones and Australian extremes forecast predicts
                            • Hi Ash, byjoveoldchap and all, i'm in CQ, the rain has stopped for a bit now, but we are effectively cut off for a while, the local store is short of food too.
                              Before the 74 flood there was more rain, I think the main problem this time is they tried to store too much water too early in the season, this is how I see it, maybe i'm wrong.
                              They held up as much water as they could in all the dams, because for the last few years the water has run short. And of course like a bunch of silly children they just thought that holding more water would fix the problem of running out, however when the dams are all full and "letting go excess" already, the rivers and creeks are all higher to start with. Then more heavy rain on top of that, and a dam gate or two automatically opens or something maybe, Kablamo people get washed out to sea. I don't think all that water would have came down like that all at once if they wern't messing with it the way they do. The answer is intelligent useage and storage not more, more,more all the time. Heads need to roll in my opinion. Just my opinion.
                              If the dams had some reserve capacity left they could have caught the rain then let it go slowly. It's all about poor planning and morons. Without any common sense being used it's just a lottery. Pray for us.
                              Cheers
I bet they closed the doors on a lot of store's and supermarkets and let the food be destroyed by the floodwater. The power had to be cut off in brisbane so even if they are not flooded completely the perishable's will warm up. It's not going to be easy for all those people to get food. I'm very glad i'm not stuck in the city. And it looks like a cyclone forming off the coast to the right in this image.
