  • Hydrogen from Bacteria and Waste

Has anyone in the forum tried making hydrogen from alternative means like this or other ways?

    Vinegar + water + bacteria + electrons = hydrogen? - AutoblogGreen

There are several articles out there about scientists creating hydrogen from microbial bacteria and biodegradeable materials. They claim the yield is far greater than using traditional electrolysis. There is an added benefit of producing clean water from waste water as well. It may seem "less sexy" than traditional electrolysis because it uses waste but the yield is excellent!

I would love to hear some other ideas about making/extracting hydrogen because the mainstream methods seem to be almost beat to death already.

The Penn State Research is Promissing...

Agreed, one of the big complaints with the common methods of extracting hydrogen is it takes so much energy to crack it from water that the value is nil...

That third link you posted looks like a better way. At least in a lab environment. Till better methods are developed.

The can make hydrogen from renewable energy, solar and Wind. Infact Jack Nicholson's Car in (1978) Ran on 100% hydrogen from Solar energy

      Hydroxy Gas

Where is the technology today? Another company called united nuclear tried, but they got suppressed.

        hydrogen from aluminum cans

        http://www.instructables.com/id/SODA...GEN-GENERATOR/
This is 1 of several links I have.Going from memory, 1 says that the gallium needed to make the reaction can be supplied with a drop of 'liquid metal' like you can buy by the tube in an auto parts store.I believe i also have a link, or maybe its the same one, where a guy actually runs a big lincoln on nothing but aluminum generated hydrogen. 'Course, he had a 55 gal. drum he was using as a generator, but it was just to demonstrate that it CAN be done.I think the attraction of the electrolysys is using water, theroretically free and easy to aquire. After all, any 'new' system doesn't, at least initially, have a supply network, like gas stations.Still, seems like you could store a lot of aluminum in the trunk! That would be an environmental nightmare, as no one would recycle them , allot of energy goes into aluminum, i think some one said some where that if you burn it, you get more BTU's out of it as its already highly energy entrained from the manufacturing process. Might be wrong tho.
