  • how does capacitor work ?

Well, maybe someone enlighten me ...

I thought about 3 theories how capacitor works :

    1. it's like empty container - need electrons to be stored there and release them when shorted

    2. it's like not empty container, contains always some amount of electrons (depending on capacitance), but mostly they are mixed with positive ions and charge is not available, once electric field is applied the charges separate and capacitor is charged; on discharging electrons flow outside , but the same amount flow from power source again (?)

    3. it holds pure electric field generating electrons, when shorted electrons flow outside and electric field collapse

any other theory ? I would like to have them all in one place then try to find experiments to disprove each of them

I was told that there are special capacitors very hard to get which could store voltage potential without current

It's better to wear off by working than to rust by doing nothing.
