Old Magnacoaster Device With A Wheel
I've been looking at the old Magnacoaster device, the old one with a wheel, and this is how I think it works: Because the coil's core is attached to a stationary magnet, when a magnet on the wheel passes by the coil and the coil's core, the revolving magnet's opposing field pushes against the magnet field already in the coil from the permanent magnet connected to the core. When the revolving magnet passes completely past the coil or the coil's core, the points are engaged. Meanwhile, with the revolving magnet's opposing field gone, the permanent magnet saturates the coil, thus energizing it. The coil then produces electricity, happening while the points are engaged.
