You could probably get rid of the compensation network if you don't want the scope connection.

I did not try this circuit yet, just found it couple of days ago...
If I had a scope, it would be as useful to me as an electric door stop with a one foot cord, I'm clueless.

Back to the question before, how do I prevent burning up meter after meter when
I don't get the HV meter device built correctly or I under estimate the voltage?
Is there a way build into the circuit a "Over 500 volt" indicator or would
possibly a spark gap fulfill that need?
How big is the effect of humidity on a spark gap?

I have the materials, I don't have the Juice/power source.
Knowing the voltage used seem kinda important if one would like
to create more than just one electret or share with others what has
    been done.

reading voltage that's higher than your meter

Check out 'voltage divider' on google, essentially, you get two resistors (that can handle the amperage or just measure quickly) one is a tenth or hundredth of the other, and connect them in series. Clip you meter leads either side of the smaller resistor, and put two alligator clip leads either side of the two connected resistors. So you have neg meter and neg clip, small resistor, pos meter, large resistor, pos clip.

When you put pos and neg clips on circuit, your meter will show one tenth or one hundredth of the actual voltage.

      Hope that helps
Atoms move for free. It's all about resonance and phase. Make the circuit open and build a generator.

I have tryed to charge coxial cable in the oven but i cant get the charge to stay.
When it was in the oven i did here one spark which may have killed the whole thing,
Braden@ have you had any luck with this way of proof of concept. If so How?

So you really want just a HV probe?

            I didn't know I wanted a PROBE .. but for $10 sure I want a probe
            You lucky dog you.. $10
What I wanted was a cheap solution and a way to monitor. (meter)

Oh, Amigo, you had a comment in the blank water topic, I saw a video
and told you about it (bottom of posting) here ..

This table has some values missing for some materials, but it's a starting point.

for those with ideas of using a plastic or what-not for an electret.

              Vortex,

Thanks for that other post, I must have missed it. I think I can picture that setup for the vortex creation, again I think it's all about the geometry of the vortex, it has to form a specific curve...

How 'bout these HV probes on ebay...might not end up being $10 but still:

              or this one...

                Found Flyback

I saw an abandoned (dumped) console TV on the side of the highway
today and I stopped and ripped out the board that had the Flyback transformers attached.
It seems strange looking to me. The gray case I thought to be the flyback,
along with these coils and terminals , looks like an octopus.

I now understand why you read all over the statement:
"get some TV guy to make HV using a flyback"

At least now I know if I every get around to obtaining some HV,
it probably will not be via a flyback transformer.

Those 10 wires are not one to each terminal, but 3, 2 sets of 2 and the rest are single wires, whatever.

Vortex now buy a bulb and you have a jacobs ladder
and a very high HV supply to play with!!
                  JUST BE CAREFULL
MAKE A HIGH VOLTAGE SUPPLY IN 5 MINUTES
                  Easy as pie!!
Also Buy a blow torch to get the flyback off and other things too.
I With do a Picture soon
