patmac, could you tell us a bit about your generator coil? guage of wire and number of turns? and are you using neo magnets?

I tried a similar set up and it lit neons so I first thought woohoo! But then I realised my coil could light a neon without the circuit anyway

      Spikes

      Thanks Patmac,

I think the spikes you are talking about are 2000v in magnitude, like the ones I have captured in this scope shot:

This clearly shows, "when" the read switch should fire.

You charge the capacitors with these spikes don't you? It is a really interesting effect, which seems like infinite potential.

Can you provide the specs for your coils and the amount of usable power you were able to generate with them?

Cody i saw your video, it looks great, good work, i think that you would have better results if the reed switch pulse is smaller, and try to work with mosfets.

Thanks darkwizard. I figured that the pulse duration would need to be very small, thats why i used that other rotor with the smaller magnets on it. Unfortunatly thats about as small as i can get it with that setup. I might play with some mosfets today. thanks

            hey seph,
what kind of crazy coil you got that is normally puttin out a high enough voltage to light a neon but i guess if your motor is whirling some neos by your coil at 5000rpm that might explain it.

It is using neomagnets and the coil about 2500 - 3000 turns... can't remember what guage I used now... very thin, probably between 28 - 32.

Doesn't load the motor much with such a high resistance load like a neon but it slows the rotor significantly when it is charging a battery. This is a different motor by the way... only goes at 3600 rpm at its sweet spot...

AWG 24 wire, I don't how much turns, but has 15 ohms, the core is normal welding rods (not R60), total core is about 10 mm diammeter like the magnets, magnets are 10mm x 3mm disk type (little), magnets are Neo 38.

Total size core is aprox: lenght 25 mm X height 60 mm.

Yes the most important here is possible charge capacitors, the energy seem not usefull but you can charge capacitors, look above I tested with 1.5 Farads capacitor. In the post to sephiroth I've detailed the coil.

The test with battery in series is important to, that show like Bedini SG can short the coil with the transistor.

Patmac there i see an error on the last schematic, the battery is connected reverse?

                    What is the battery function?

Schematics is well, the idea is add impendance of the battery to the coil, and demostrate that is possible short the coil and get spikes.

If I put terminal battery positive to collector transistor, battery is get discharged.

I did some more testing. I did three tests. The first is a control test just to show how the coil would preform in a standard circuit. The second is the way i have been doing it. The third is the way Jetijs wanted me to try how patmac says he can get it to work. I measured the load just with my hands feeling the physical resistance on the rotor for each test. Im sure there was a small load in test 1 and 3, it was just to small for me to feel.

                          Patmac,
do you have any suggestions as to why i can not get my (test 3) to work how you say you can. Something that i may be doing wrong? I would like to understand this from the ground up, the way you did, because im having a hard time understanding what all your capacitors and diodes are doing in your circuit. In the last schematic you posted, it appears to me that your B2 will always be charging your C1. Is that right?

                            Part of my secret.

Yeah cody, next circuit is on my notebook a couple month ago when I begun with this project. Don't worry, is hard learn this, I've deleted and redraw my circuits many times to reach & develop all my ideas, is my mind, because in my mind I understand all this, but to develop the idea is hard very hard.

It's obvious cody, spike comes from the coil to the battery passing by the diode (+), and is stoped by the battery, in this moment battery is like a another diode with positive side joined to the positive side diode from the coil.

In best of case you are sending 6 volts to the 12 volts battery, to make a short circuit you need invert the battery, but battery will send energy to the coil, my idea above was to test that is possible short circuited the coil adding the battery impendace, battery on the schematics above dont get charge from the coil, only show neon glow.

I'll give you a gift, I'll give you a part of my secret look the schematic: only show this on the tube with my nickname .

                              Update, Good News!!!!

Pacmac, thank you for that schematic, actually i think its very similar to what i just discovered while playing around. Here is a new picture of what i just did, and it worked. I got a high voltage, and i didnt notice any drag on the rotor as i had in my previous work. I had to retune my switch timing from my previous setup and get rid of the diode and used a pulse cap to get it to work and the voltage is not as high, it barely lights the neon. But its working! So i think the key here is that this is giving me the high voltage without the drag because its not a direct short (one coil leg to the other), instead it shorts through a capacitor, so its not actually a short at all. I havnt actually used it to charge anything yet, just been getting the HV to work first. This is getting interesting. Pat ill try your schematic next. Here is what i did.

Ok I was drawing another schematics to explain what I did in the schematic with battery in series with the coil, if you look the battery is only like a resistor, this give us the idea that does Bedini SG when transistor is ON, is short circuiting the coil in the same time that battery energize the coil.

This don't charge and don't discharge the battery, only is a proof of concept.
