  • Tesla Vacuum Tube

Does anyone have a good idea of the "Open ended vacuum tube" to which Tesla was referring since 1934? And I do not need copies from all the usual PD reference. I would like to know if there is any reasonable understandable drawing that shows this concept.

If not from Tesla, then John Huthinson made such a device which is now on display in the Hiroshima City museum. Any idea on that design, concept or drawings - or how exactly this "open ended vacuum tube" is suppose to work?

In particular, I am interested in the acceleration method and how the molecular matter was conceived.

Any ideas regarding this part of his defensive shield (aka Death Ray) will be appreciated.

While on this topic; Help would also be appreciated in understanding one of the other references Tesla made in his last 15 years. He was talking of a Van Der Graaf like generator, capable of 60 MVolt "Electrostatic energy" - but generated by gas ????

    Tall order.

Since I will be trying to make vacuum tube diode, I can make open ended (transmission plate, no reciever) one. Will let you know how it goes.
Atoms move for free. It's all about resonance and phase. Make the circuit open and build a generator.

      Blowing glass

      Hi
I came across this site a while ago that may inspire to make our own bulbs tubes etc. He covers diodes as well.

      Regards

Not what I was hoping for, but still a very interesting and valuable link. Thanks!

Not sure if this is still of interest, but I was able to find one image of Tesla's open-ended vacuum tube:

I've read a couple of mentions about Tesla's tube. One said it was 50 feet long, the other said 80 to 100. It was 6" in diameter, with a small hole on the far end. It had a hemispherical electrode at the closed end. This may have had a highly polished flat plate arcoss the open part of the electrode, with around a half dozzen medium sized holes. This electrode was connected to the center of his 6' pancake coil. The longitudinal force from the electrode repelled the air in the tube, producing a vacuum at the electrode end and a pressure gradient along the length of the tube.

I have a document from IAEA titled "Non Linear Interaction Involving Zero Energy Wave". It says the amplitude of two EM waves interacting with a neutral particle beam can go to infinity in a finite period of time. If I remember correctly, the waves are phased at 90 degrees.

Patent #2208217 shows a setup using Van deGraaf balls. (Don't try to download this from Google; some of the drawings are messed up.)
Patent #2004352 shows a simple setup for generating static with a blower.

With some googling I found the following.

                This one contains a picture:
Tesla's Death Ray | Interesting Facts About Nikola Tesla #11
"The device, which was based upon a large Van de Graaff generator of unique design and a special type of open ended vacuum tube, comprised a system for the acceleration of very small charged metallic particles to prodigiously high velocity, according to Tesla about 48 times the speed of sound. The particles were projected out of the tube by means of electro-static repulsion. As can be seen from Tesla's words written in a letter to J.P. Morgan, Jr. on November 29, 1934 it was intended for use in national defense."

"Tesla worked on plans for a directed-energy weapon which he
called “death ray”, between the early 1900s till the time of his
death. In 1937, Tesla composed a treatise entitled The Art of
Projecting Concentrated Non-dispersive Energy through the Natural
Media concerning charged particle beams. Tesla published
the document in an attempt to expound on the technical description
of a “super weapon that would put an end to all war”. This
treatise on the particle beam is currently in the Nikola Museum
archive in Belgrade. It described an open ended vacuum tube with
a gas jet seal that allowed particles to exit, a method of charging
particles to millions of volts, and a method of creating and
directing non-dispersive particle streams (through electrostatic
                repulsion)."

Nicolas Tesla’s ‘Death Ray’ | The Unknown
"This ‘Death Ray’ also called the ‘Peace Ray’ was a device that was based on a Van-de-Graf Generator. He used the high potentials generated by the Van-de-Graft generator to accelerate particles to extremely high energies. But the speciallity in his instrument was a specially designed high vacuum tube which had one opening into the atmosphere! Ok. How in the world is that possible ? A vacuum tube that’s having an open end ? Well Tesla came up with an indegenous techinque by which the open end of the tube was cornered or flagged with high velocity air that maintained high vacuum within the vacuum tube. Tesla accelerated metal particles and the collimated beam was then focused on objects, destroying them! ( Atleast that’s what’s believed!)."

                  Tesla open-ended vacuum device

Thanks for the picture, Jacob S. The vacuum device works just like a perfume atomizer. Check out patent disclosures for atomizers. It's interesting that physics books describe an atomizer as a Venturi tube device. Wrong. Tesla's vacuum device uses high-velocity gas to blow the air particles away from the opening of a tube connected to the vessel to be evacuated.

Aromaz, I knew a guy who worked for a company called Electro-Optical Systems in the '60s. They had an ion beam propulsion device that accelerated the ions by an electric field. Trouble is that they have to be neutralized as they exit or they just get attracted back to the propulsion device. The device was designed to work in the vacuum of space.
