High Voltage from Thin Air?

I would think a scope should work, I use them a lot for finding self resonance of coils. Dont hook it up, just put the lead near the coil to pick up the field. Dont see why it would be too much difference, its just taking a voltage measurement i believe. I put 3 coils together and have been tuning them to try and replicate the cool vid Doc posted. I was using my scope to tune them but the AC hum in the scope was making it difficult to see the peak voltage. If i had a better scope that may not be a problem though. So i put an AV plug nearby and put my voltmeter across the LED and set the meter on the most sensitive DC voltage range and found it easier than using the scope to find the peak voltage frequency. Probably throws things off a little but i would think as long as you do the exact same tuning procedure on each coil it should at least get them all near the same resonance. Its tough though because even standing an inch closer can make a difference. Im wondering about the capacitor in the circuit, how to calculate its value if possible. My coils are resonant at just over 10MHz.

dr stiffler mentions that he has posted a paper on finding self resonance in his first video about finding the spatial resonance of a coil, anyone know were i could find this paper? and don't say scribd he only used that for a handful of i guess his most popular or important works. It seems as though his papers are sort of lost or hidden or archived or something of the sorts, because at one point someone posted a link to webpages on his site that i never knew existed.

maybe im just not looking into this far enough? i guess in the same way as you find more things in digging a hole than scratching the surface

Dr. Stiffler is still around although about 1/10th. He has a couple of medical problems - "all related to age" that have been causing very short days for him and very little participation in public and his own forum. We hope this will abate soon as the problems are manageable if he can get one cleared up the other will follow.

Don't expect to see him posting much on his work. He does try to post on our less than controversial endeavors although.

From the first video of that series YouTube - 3-Coil srf Demo Part#1 I understand, that you orient the coil on the table, so that its axis corresponds to the geographic North-South-axis.

You do this, because the electrical effect is maximized in this way.
Is my understand correct, so far?

I take it from NOAA's Geophysical Data Center - Geomagnetic Online Calculator
that the earth magnetic field has a strong inclination (i.e. upward-downward-orientation) at most locations.

So would the signal further increase, if you actually inclined the coil?

Doctor that is a very puzzling experiment that you showed where you ran a SEC exciter with a 100K resistor placed on the negative terminal of the 12 volt source battery.
