    Hi Dr Stiffler,

It was a thrill to get the basic SEC15 up and running a neon on the AV Plug with just a 9 V battery.

    Thanks,

    Greg

    • A confession....

Today I stopped the experiment when the cap was down to 0,16V after 3 days.

I said yesterday I would be skeptical if I was told about what I saw.

This is probably why I then started the opposite procedure: how to kill the light.
I shorted the cap again, still light.
I removed the 2200uF cap, still light.
I shorted the power input, still light.

I removed the ground wire --- no light.
I connected L3 to the ground wire, light again.

Conclusion: I have grounded my scope and function generator, and they have injected noise in the ground wire, probably via the noise capacitor in the power input filter, this is sufficient to light the LEDs.

So I have been fooled by this while running the experiment, but luckily I checked now, so I can reduce the harm to 3 days of misleading you, nothing I'm proud of

Besides that I will continue my next experiments and establish a separate ground wire.

What a company employing me uses, I'm indifferent of, but my private computers will have nothing to do with windows. I even have an unused windows license, so running windows programs will be done on an old computer not in daily use.

      @Doc
Glad to see you back again

Don't be surprised having trouble with the net. Last summer I could not put a computer on the net for two months without it being infected, so it had to be reinstalled. I actually got very skilled to reinstall. I also was unable to access https sites.

Then I got another solution, so I got rid of the constantly being infected problem. And after I mentioned on the phone, that I would report my problems to the IT police, my https problem disappeared.

As my IP supporter said, "they" don't want their filters exposed by an investigation.

I have then kept a low profile until posting on this thread, the day after I got the SEC working, I could no longer send emails.

A free country with the freedom of speech, or some organization allowed to adapt mafia methods, judge for yourself.

By the way do not consider anything on a computer connected to the Internet as private. Some out there are very skilled, so better safe than sorry.
A large portion of the computers in this world are silently controlled by botnets organized by criminals and also secret services.

Sometime ago I saw a German report on a "honeypot" experiment. Freshly installed Windows computers was connected to the net without further actions, besides the net being monitored.

The first computer lasted 9 minutes, the longest resistance in the experiment was half an hour. At that time all computers were infected.

Happy to see you were able to get where you are. Those proto boards are bad news. I had to jump through hoops in both directions to get the circuit to move from one of these boards to a PCB. Designing in all the required capacities was a ___. Until the PCB's people all had different boards, some had backing plates (Al) and some did not. Some were small and some were large. The PCB's helped correct this, yet I was ostracized as it was thought I was making money from this. Blah! I support all of my research from my earned retirement. Anyway I am indeed happy to see someone start from the ground and move up.

Good job and hey, greater things are out there as you move forward.

I just added an Al backing plate today. Are the PCB's still available? Sure would like to get my hands on one (some) ... $?

Sorry, no. Like I stated I had to much trouble with selling to general public. People for whatever reason came up with all sorts of crap about it, so all lost as a result. Guess you could say they won, but they really lost.

BTW That tunable Lb is a must and will make life easier.

              • first SEC #3

                Hi all,

I'm sure you are all getting tired of my posts about 'my first sec'. Well maybe some people who haven't built yet can benefits from what I've learned so far ... mostly hardware.

I added an aluminum back plane to the protoboard ... what a difference!. I also changed out the chokes for chokes from Mouser Electronics and changed my Lb from 10 uH to 4.7 uH and power consumption went down 40% & output voltage went up ... also NPN runs much, much cooler.

I still intend to use a tunable Lb but now I have a better idea of what value range to select.

Video of SEC 15, my Rev. 3 - here:

                • FRINGE---In a box

                  @ Dr. Stiffler
Welcome back. I boxed up "FRINGE" (Fringe1 ???) and made a video of how he works. I will try to build the Fringe2 circuit that is on your web site. The spice simulation looks really good. When I put together "FRINGE" I left him on an experimenter board knowing that there was probably going to have to be changes made. Working with these experimenter boards is very frustrating when you are trying to shove it into a little box.
I don't mention this in the video but when this circuit drains the source battery down to a certain point ( about 7.8 volts) it goes into a second mode where the current draw is less than 1 millamp. The LEDs are still on but not bright and there is still some charging going on. I found that very interesting.

                    @Lidmotor @All

Let me be honest here as there are people following this that may not fully understand. The simulation is just that, it can never work the way the simulation shows it. Why? Well explore the voltages throughout the circuit, the currents and the wattage at different locations using the differential voltage. You will see that there are instantaneous powers of close to 200kw, we should all know this is not possible unless we are in the Tera second area. Okay now the 1N4148's will not stand for the levels shown in the sim, the whole system needs to be scaled back to where the components will handle it all. And folks no, changing the diodes will not help as in doing so the capacities change and it starts to fall apart. If you did what the sim shows, you would need 1/4" to 1/2" Cu tubing for the coils and Broadcast transmitter style mica capacitors to take the energy.

Now having said that, it will still work and maybe, just maybe a CEC > 500 if you really use care in the layout and pay attention to the parts. I would suggest that using parts shown and cutting it back, be happy with anything over 100 you get

Lattice333 caught me also on the resistance of the 10H choke. In the sim I have it at 0.1ohm and you would need to adjust this for the real value of your coil like one or two hundred ohms. (Thanks Lattice )

So build, but do not expect the great number the sim shows, unless you can pay me to over see the construction

                    • tunable Lb

                      @ Dr Stiffler and all,

I would appreciate some tricks & tips regarding regarding acquiring, sourcing, building a tunable Lb. A couple of you have given me suggestions so thanks, and I have noticed that commercial units have a very narrow adjustment 'band' ... I still would appreciate a little more assistance here.

My guess is to buy a selection of commercial units and just find the best ... yes?

                      Thanks in advance,

                        @gmeast
Please let me provide my two cents here. All slugs are not created equal, in other words if you look back at the link to the site that I posted for the ferrite beads you will find that they look the same, but the material may be different, which means the response to RF will be different and the tuning range is different. Usually the specs on blank forms will not provide the material for the slug so it would be hard to judge what you would get when you wound a coil on it (VHF and UHF response). This is the range factor you speak of. When I build the PCB's I purchased a bulk amount of coils and stripped the wire and rewound to my spec. using an LC meter. Once I found one that worked I unwound it and measured the wire length and wound all after that the same way (ala duplication).

A number of people here have used various methods and it appears it has worked for them, although I do not feel the sliding core method is very stable. In what I have done I found that a range of about 3uH is good. So if you have ir can obtain some echo electronic discarded tv's, radios or better yet 2-way radios and pull the forms and strip off the existing wire. Back out the slug from the form and wind a coil for about 1 to 1.5uH. Now insert the slug and you should have what you need.

I hope this helps and does not confuse.

BTW I know of no off the shelf coils that will just slip into place.

A new 'Fringe2.asc file is now available which updates the R for the 10H choke.

Also you will find some other new info on the index page.

The Universe in which we exist is full of energy, but in many ways is like a vitamin K injection, until you have one, the energy you feel is not present in any other way.

NEVER will the idea of being able to obtain a gain in energy (really a conversion) ever be accepted so long as we have these stupid concepts of free runners and energy from nothing. There is a FINITE amount of energy in the universe which is defined by the mass of the universe, we can not change that, but we can convert one form to another which in our limited view appears to be that old out dated 'OU' so many hang on to.

I accept what you are saying, but maybe the term 'CEC' which could mean 'Converted Energy Coefficient' would be better than OU? I Use 'Cohered Energy Coefficient' because I (Collect and Convert) other forms of available energy to a form that can be used and "APPEARS" to be your 'OU', but it is indeed not.

Hey maybe this will help, look at a flowing river and you see massive amounts of water flowing past a reference point, yet you can not in you mind grasp the energy that you are seeing, but allow that water to turn turbines and look at the meters and hey, we have Mega Kilowatts. This is how simple it is in the understanding. No Magic, a mere manipulation of what is already here into something we can use in a form we understand.

                              Make any sense?
You are saying there is a finite amount of energy in the universe which is defined by the mass of universe?

I would like to suggest that the energy of universe is dynamic and is in fact accelerating at a rate corresponding to the accelerative expansion of universe. Would this not indicate a continuous increase in energy affecting the continuous accelerative expansion of universe?

This idea of energy being proportional to mass is in my opinion a very general rule at best, as it makes no sense for the ratio of energy per unit of mass to be equal for all materials. Would it not make more sense for the ratio of energy per unit of mass to be different for each material?

I think we need to nail down our perception of energy as to exactly what we perceive energy to be before we can say there is no aether energy available to us.

We further assume there to be many different forces at work, which would suggest these forces to be the cause of effects, but are these forces such as gravity etc. not themselves effects rather than forces?

Could this suggest an underlying force of energy affecting both the form and function of all physical structure?

I don't doubt that many of our modern innovations and inventions are quite remarkable, but if we have missed something as basic as an underlying force of energy we might be missing a large portion of the bigger picture.

                                Hi all,

I can almost understand how ME holding holding on to the free wire of the neon might complete some sort of circuit and cause it to light up because I make a good antenna, or something. But look at these pictures $#@% !

I simply placed a spoon far enough away so there is not a chance of coupling with anything except maybe vacuum energy ... in fact it goes out if the spoon touches the aluminum backplane of the board.

                                Does this prove something important?
