Video translations !?! What software ?

Hello,

My question is: could you recommend me a free software to put subtitles on videos like those from Youtube or Google.

I plan to translate some videos from English to French, on free energy and health matters, and I need a free software to insert subtitles in French in the English videos and vice et versa.

Hoping to get a free solution,

Are you using Windows (damn them to hell even though I use them too)?

Windows Movie Maker can do that and it comes with Windows (not sure about earlier verisions)... the only other program I use is Power Director but I don't think you can get that free unless you are cunning

PS: any other suggestion for other video formats, like .flv and .mp4?

I used DivXLand Media Subtitler (freeware and easy to use) to make soft subs like .srt. Soft subs could be used with all format like .flv and others.
