question to upgrade fan oscillator to 24 volts

I have built a Imhotep fan oscillator and it runs great. but I want to upgrade it to 24 volts. When I run it on 24 volts the transistor gets very hot.
I shut it off before burning anything up last night.
Do I need to add more resistance to the ciruit, up grade diodes, or ad another transistor?
To get rid of the heat build up on the transistor.

Are you using or pot or a set resistor? Sounds like you just need to retune it. On time or run time is too long, need more resistance on trigger.

yes I got a pot on it..
Oh Iguess I should have mentioned I was running a car coil off it lighting 4 flourescent tubes so I did have it cranked up or highest output on the coil.
It was in self oscillation.
