  • Weird phenomena of one wire lighting.

My one wire neon bulb lighter is inconsistent. Sometimes the neon light is bright, sometimes it only dim. Sometimes the glow position is on top, sometimes at bottom, most of the time the glow move up - down or front -rear rapidly (usually when not utilized for charging or not grounded).

I try to see the connection between the brightness of the light with my sorrounding environment. But I failed to see it. It light up very bright this morning but it glow dim at noon. I first thought that it is because the Air Conditioner being fixed at the morning cause the device to absorb heat and when the room temperatur is cold at noon reduce the energies. But with no warning the glow suddenly rotate and start to light up brighter (When I am writing this post actually). Not as bright as this morning but with the same whine loudness (brighter lighting usually accompanied with loud whistling).

What weird effect that you observe on your one wire lighting?

Anyone know the relation between one wire lighting brightness with environment?

What I mean by one wire lighting is lighting up neon bulb using radiant oscillator or School Girl charger or Bedini charger or Joule thief charger, etc.

one thing I have noticed (not with one wire lighting though) is that the conductivity of a neon bulb is photosensitive. In brighter light it is easier to light the bulb.

I tuned an oscillator so that it generated spikes just big enough to light the bulb, but when I put my hand over it (block the light) the bulb goes out and then comes back on when I move my hand away.

Not sure if it relates to your observations though

yes well when there is one wire only, transmission is based on reflection in a single wire, and environmental capacity.
Humidity plays a great role and you can see this by increasing/decreasing it.
The human body contains alot of water and if you move your hand close to the circuit or touch the other lead of the bulb, capacity will increase or drop and the bulb goes out or comes on stronger.
The glow is really just ionization of the gas and it happens at a certain voltage level. (65V for standard NE2 bulb)
If the charge on the bulb is higher then 65V and you are using a AC component in the feed, capacity will make it glow.
If you really want transmission of full power, you need a carefully balanced weight on the transmitter and reciever end wires that are not connected.
Tesla used his wardenclyffe tower as the weight on the transmitter end.
It is more or less like a wall that you can push up against to force the power down the other line which is his example was earth itself.

@Sephiroth, that is interesting. My neon don't behave like that though. It always light up. Maybe the frequency is important. What is the frequency of your device? Mine is around 2000Hz (hear the freq in my video link bellow).

@Marcoz, yes that is some properties of one wire lighting. I did some touching to the neon bulb terminal too:
YouTube - Moving neon bulb light #2

The light in the video is not as bright as when the transformer sing at slightly higher frequency (I don't change anything, it do that randomly).

What made me puzzled is this morning the light is as bright as when the neon terminal being touch by hand in the afternoon. There must be some other factor besides human body. I believe the electricity is stable since I use electricity from big power regulator, it shouldn't be from the power source.

And I still can't find an explanation for why the glow move/pulsating at random.
