  • Free Energy from Osmosis

It always bugged me that science shuns perpetual motion, yet "electrons are forever spinning at the speed of light around the nucleus", "molecules are bouncing around like crazy in water" and nature is thriving and the rules of entropy almost don't seem to apply.

Today I was doing some research and came across the concept of osmosis/passive diffusion.

    Osmosis
Take a container, separate it with a membrane that only water can pass through. Fill the one side with 100ml water and the other with 50ml water and 50ml sugar, creating a solution. The water quantities will try to balance out on each side, causing the sugar water level to spontaneously rise. Now you will end with 75ml water in the one side and 75ml water in the other, plus the sugar.

here's a great video on the concept too
    YouTube - Osmosis

Now, what if you placed a valve at the higher part of the water column, filtered with the same membrane? Only water would flow out of it when opened, and back down into the first compartment again, possibly turning a water wheel. YOU GET SOMETHING FOR NOTHING. The levels will return to like they were in the beginning, the valve will be manually shut again and the process will repeat with no additional input!

But where does this energy come from? Nowhere!
It just comes from the molecules natural kinetic energy but this will never be depleted if you think about it. It's as though you were doing work with pure potential

Your thread title reminds me of:

Nokia, however, has taken another baby step in that direction with the invention of a cell phone that recharges itself using a unique system: It harvests ambient radio waves from the air, and turns that energy into usable power. Enough, at least, to keep a cell phone from running out of juice.

I don't know if the phone is really working by osmosis but it kind of seems like it does.

Osmosis does not use up any resources be it ambient temperature, radio waves, wind, solar energy etc. It is an intermolecular phenomenon and results from the kinetic energy of the molecules, which is never reduced at any point in the reaction.

Someone knowledgeable on the subject, correct me if I'm wrong.

Just speculating here but that kind of seems logical bc as I understand it, it occurs in reaction towards balancing something that is unbalanced.

But then, did it take energy to create the unbalance, and if so do you count that?

It is interesting because by balancing one thing it imbalances another and creates an actual force called osmotic pressure. This force can be stored in the form of potential until it is large enough to spin a wheel for example. Then it is released, and it is possible to restore the system to its original state because the "kinetic energy" is doing the work, without being depleted.

I'm thinking you have to look at it as an open system bc it's too complex to look at otherwise.

Like if you just look at a river running you can see it is restoring balance by running, and by itself you can calculate energy gains, like by utilizing the current to spin something.

But then if you look at how that water gets to wherever it has to get to start running down that river. . . well that sounds a bit impossible to calculate.

I would never say it is completely closed because everything is connected on a higher level, but relative to the Earth we live on, it does not deplete anything scientists would term an energy resource. Who knows why it works like that maybe there are more subtleties to the matter than we might think.

                  Indeed

But on a more serious note I would appreciate it if someone could critically evaluate my hypothesis on the matter.

nokia goes one step ahead from this issue , it is reliable in many facilities compared to other mobiles recently i have an experience with nokia unlock iusing codes here Unlocking4U - The Easiest Way to Unlock your Phone , it works good .it was a pleasant experience .
