    The 16 or 21 watt for 100watt brightness equivalent is what is needed for the electronics to power the CFL. Actually the CFL shines with a couple of watts.

    See Imhotep Light oscillator for more. One replicator managed to light 3 CFLs decently at 2,5 watts. Still hardly can anyone claim OU there. Just maximum efficiency.

      Thank you for your assistance with this it is greatly appreciated.

      I will try putting the amp meter in series with the bulbs and measure the comsumption as you suggested.

      I am not trying to achieve OU, I simply want to remove a range and weight issue for an electric vehicle. Even if I can increase the range that will be a win for me.

      I thought I might try a darlington pair to see if I can get more voltage out of the HV lead from the coil. I tried to do this with normal transistors but it didnt work so I was going to purchase some TIP120's and try that.
