Has the French guy even built one yet? I connected by phone with an acquaintance of the inventor of that patent and he said the inventor never built one so I guess that makes me the only one to have ever built this kind of vertical wind turbine ... mmm.

We managed to take a picture of the window motor pushing the monopole - the monopole acting as a magneto generator. we used a window motor type coil design for the wind turbine model instead of the coil w/ R60 core. check out Guy zz on YouTube for that coil.
we removed some spokes from the bike wheel and used stiff packing tape between the remaining spokes to shape the blade. you'll have to use a tiny bit of imagination here as we do not have a picture of that one.
it did not take much wind to get it going. we were not going for a glamorous build, anyway we got side tracked - point is - if you're into wind, give some thought to putting the magnets and coils on the outside of the wheel - lower wind speed is necessary and think magneto for the real power... better yet you can increase the wind speed by placing the wheel inside of a tunnel - think Jet.
this uses the Bernoulli's effect of low pressure to speed up the wind that passes by the blades, place more than one wheel inside the tunnel turning in the opposite direction and it'll really get going. now we're talking rocket science...

Something for you inventors to think about - .
I observed the wind on a field of wheat - and saw how the ripples moved across it.
I thought that if each of these "wands" contained piezoelectric elements, that you would generate power from flat surfaces.
Imagine a high-rise appartment - covered on it's external faces with tiles covered in thick hairs - 8" long containing piezo crystals. All plugged together to form a "wooly building" - Each hair generating milliwatts.
This would not only produce power for the building, but also provide insulatiuon by reducing wind speed at the base, and therefore heat loss.
I initially thought of mounting LED's along these "hairs" - providing a living lightshow whenever the wind moved them - changing colour with the degree of bend or increase in potential.
Would be impressive to see at least
On a practical note - small arrays can be just as effective as large devices, and less obtrusive into our environment.

My vision is that wind turbines need to sexy up.
They don't do it for even the greenest of politician or support groups. Noisy, bulky, ugly.
gmeast's device seems way efficient. If it's the most efficient more or less one-dimentionally shapped turbine, one should outline building with it. All alonf roof top edge. All along corners of buildings. They could even be hidden from plain view, fed with air from funnels. They could even be designed to move air UP, away from traffic, while also blowing out smog gasses. A slight twist to the blades on gmeast's device might already to that. Being hidden from view by an air duct, and lined with insulation material, the pedestrian would not hear the turbine working over traffic.
A well-designed building will funnel air perfectly from all directions, keeping the main entrance in a calm wind, while channeling air flow such, that most of it can be retrieved. If you go really crazy, office building floor might rotate relative to each other, changing not only worker's view, but also adjusting for the types of winds blowing to get the most of it into the turbines.
With some high-tech design, gmeast's turbine could be made telescopic. Rising (erectin is sexier) from a car roof, where it was taking up 4-6 inches, standing 3 feet tall. Topping off up the car's batteries, and after that either powering the grid, or retracting.
I said this before online, but it's one of the best things I've come up with, so I'll repeat it here. "If you're on the street, and spot a place where no wind turbine is installed, you are witnessing energy being wasted.
I have a epiphany here. Either fluke or holy grail.
Trying to flaw gmeast's design, I found the blades that is 90 degrees with the wind, will resist going faster than the wind. In all other moments, the angle of the blades urges the systems to go faster than the wind.
If this system were combined with the DDWFTTW wind cart, what would happen.
The idea : the blade is replace by a propellor. The propeller is driven by the rotation of the central shaft, NOT the wind flowing over it. The propellor is like a swimmer in crawl. The prop is obviously geared to "swim" faster than the central shaft is turning it. At least in the directly down wind position, it will be thrusting. In all other directions except the directly into the wind position, it will still be positively pushing the turbine to go faster. Or am I visualising this wrong?
After the DDWFTTW successful runs, 2-3x wind speed, it was often asked, also by me, how the world could benefit, apart from the far-fetched idea of wind-powered transport. The morhping of gmeast's turbine, and substituting the blades for props, might be interesting...
