The 4 RM2C diodes in series pulled off an old TV board
tried in the sunlight produced no voltage.
Retried them on the CFL, produced voltage.

Hi randy and richard. Just thought I'd jog your memories.

Lead sulfate coated metal sheets (or lead sheets prepared in sulfur) and Germanium diodes in an avramenko plug would be interesting.

The process to make lead radio sensitive is in this pdf link

          Make your own diode

This page (down the bottom) says how to make your own copper - copper oxide diode.

Copper oxide is obtained by putting copper in flame and scraping the surface.

            Single diode meters 20+ volts

Inquorate, I don't know what to do with that information.

            I got my IN4007s today.
A 1/2" strip of aluminum foil around the bulb top to bottom, couple wraps
and then, with a bare wire, made one wrap around the foil.
Using a SINGLE diode two feet away from the bulb, I measured 10+ volts.
Then as the bulb heats up the voltage went down to about 8 volts.

Cooling the bulb down by fanning it makes the voltage up back up.
When the bulb was hot and measured about 8 volts.
Adding an earth ground causes the voltage to jump over 20.

If you hold, touch or handle the voltage meter leads/probes you will
get false readings. Readings must be done without touching.

40+ volts using a single diode

I 1 foot x 1" strip of foil, folded it length wise to make it 1' x 1/2".
Wrapped that around the CFL, top to bottom. Wrapped the foil
              once with a bare wire.
Earth grounded metered 40+ volts, as the bulb heats up the voltage dropped
              down to 37-38 volts.
Oh, oh, my CFL is unmodified and is plugged into an AC socket
that's why the bulb is heating up.

Tried two 1'x1" strips, doubled up on top of each other,
that only metered 25+ volts? Strange.
I metered the single 1'x1", again, on the same bulb and it was still
              above 38 volts.

              Any insights anyone?

How would the common diode compare in price performance ratio against solar cell?

Would it make a cheap solar cell?

I don't know. Bodkins was using some that created 2.5 volts using a magnifying glass.
The diodes I've tried do not create voltage via sunlight.
The ones I'm using are creating voltage off the CFL.
I have no idea the amps I'm getting.
I'm surprised about the voltage I getting.
Multiple diodes aren't doing anything I can see in increasing the voltage.
I was thinking if a 8" Circline Tube Fluorescent Light Bulb was used, there would be much light and
lots surface area on the bulb to suck off energy.
I was able to charge a cap with what I was getting of the CFL like Lidmotor
has shown us in CFL Table Candle with Power Module charging.

Different locations on the CFL create different voltages.
The range I've seen is from 6 to 43 volts. Once I had it reading 50
volts as I was messing around with it but I could not get it to do it again.
Try at the base of bulb to determine which side of the outputs more energy
                    that can be collected.
