      Looks like a good book.

        Carthage, Tunisia

Wikileaks founder Julian Assange has made an admirable habit of enraging western governments over the last few years, particularly the United States.

Most notably, his release of classified diplomatic documents in 2010 proved ruthlessly embarrassing, shining a spotlight on the absurd,
petty little world of international relations.

Ever since, the US government has done everything it can to stop him. Short of assassination. They shut down his website, but mirror sites instantly popped up. They sought legal action, but their efforts have been impeded by the bureaucratic deftness of his attorneys. They froze his bank accounts… but donations have poured in from all over the world.

Along the way, Uncle Sam co-opted a number of allied nations to set aside their principles for the sake of US interests–

Switzerland rolled over immediately and shuttered Assange’s bank accounts.

Australia (his home country) has remained conspicuously silent on the matter, raising not a single word of protest in his defense. One high ranking Aussie politician even publicly suggested that Assange should be killed.

Sweden has happily played along, trumping up dubious allegations about Assange and issuing an international arrest warrant.

And now there’s the UK, where Assange has been based. The British government located and arrested him, yet after his legal team was able to secure bail and delay extradition, Assange sought refuge at the Ecuadoran embassy in London. He’s been living there for two months in violation of his bail.

Assange knows that, if extradited to Sweden, he’ll be shipped off to face the death penalty in the US… so the stakes are clearly high. He even petitioned Ecuador’s president Rafael Correa for political asylum, and just hours ago, Correa agreed.

Swarms of British police have now descended on the Ecuadoran embassy in London. This, on the heels of the British Foreign Ministry issuing a warning letter to Ecuador’s government threatening to “take actions in order to arrest Mr. Assange in the current premises of the [Ecuadoran] embassy.”

Such a move would be appalling, to say the least.

Embassies are hallowed sovereign ground, not to be trespassed. Ever. This is the most sacrosanct, fundamental, inviolable principle of international relations, explicitly codified in both the Vienna Convention on Diplomatic Relations (1961) and the Vienna Convention on
        Consular Relations (1963).

Article 27 of the latter, for example, states that “the receiving State [the UK in this case] shall, even in case of armed conflict, respect and protect the consular premises, together with the property of the consular post and the consular archives.”

International law seems pretty obvious here. Yet British police stand ready to storm the embassy, arrest Assange, and tear down decades of diplomatic precedent.

In a way this is almost poetic. Assange is the man who exposed western diplomacy for the fraud that it is. That he would be sent to his death by an egregious violation of its most fundamental principle seems strangely appropriate.

Regardless, the whole affair is perhaps the foulest example that western governments will ignore their own laws, or selectively apply them, whenever they see fit.

Legal precedent means nothing. Rule of law means nothing. Free speech means nothing. Their own treaties mean nothing. It’s unbelievable. Anyone in the west who honestly thinks he’s still living in a free society is either a fool or completely out of touch.

If that seems too radical an idea, consider that ECUADOR is now the only nation which stands to defend freedom and human rights against an assault from the United States, the United Kingdom, and their spineless allies.

The west has just become a giant banana republic. Have you hit your breaking point yet? If not now… when?

        • Tax returns and birth certificates

Today Komrad Obama said that if Romney produced 5 years of his tax returns they would not use it agianst him. What a joke!!!!!!!

I found that you CANNOT trust anything any democrat says. And Komrad Obama and anyone who supports him are the worst. So I applaud Romney for not giving into the political whims of the Komrad Obama and his band of marxist theives.

If Komard Obama is so concerned about the truth why doesn't he show us his real birth certificate. When will he show us his college transcripts? What is he hiding.

Komrad President until you show us those real documents, SHUT UP!!!!!

This democrat we have in the white house is the summit of hypocracy. I still am dumbfounded that there are still MORONS out there willing to vote for that marxist thief.

I agree. But when he gives these morons food stamps, welfare checks, etc. and now promises free health-care for all their needs, why would they want to change?
Of course as we are learning that "free" heath-care will wind up being anything but free and its services will be rationed.

            • Take a few moments to watch this 3 minute video, The Government Can, made by comedian Tim Hawkin, which is a parody of the Sammy Davis Jr Candy Man tune. This parody would be a heck of a lot funnier if it was not true.

Here are some of the lyrics for The Government Can:

              "Who can tax the sunrise?
              Who can tax the trees?…

              The Government… (The Government…)
              Oh, the Government can.
The Government can because they mix it up with lies and make it all taste good.

              Who can give a bailout?
              Tell us to behave?
Make the founding fathers roll over in their grave?
              The Government… (The Government…)
              Oh, the Government can.
The Government can because they mix it up with lies and make it all taste good.

The Government takes everything we make,
              They’re power hungry and malicious.
              Their economics are fictitious.
Soon we’ll have to eat our dishes…
              Delicious!"

                • Sign this petition to stop the IRS power grab

Please take a few moments to read this important message from American Commitment, and then sign their petition:
The IRS is attempting to illegitimately rewrite the law to force states that lawfully opted out of Obamacare back in by allowing subsidies to flow through federal exchanges. And the IRS is claiming companies must pay penalty taxes of thousands of dollars per employee – even if their state lawfully opted out. It’s literally taxation without representation – and it’s happening in secret, without the American people having a voice.

Wisconsin Senator Ron Johnson has introduced Senate Joint Resolution 48 (S.J. Res. 48) to overturn this outrageous IRS power grab and allow states to exercise their lawful power to opt out of Obama’s health care subsidies and employer taxes.

We can force a Senate vote on overturning this outrageous IRS power grab if just 30 senators sign a discharge petition under the Congressional Review Act. And we can pass it on the Senate floor with just 51 votes, because the resolution is protected from filibuster. (Obama would then have to use his veto pen and take full political responsibility for this outrage if he wanted to keep it in effect.)
Please do your part and sign the petition today.

"I will not sign a plan that adds one dime to our deficits -- either now or in the future."
(Remarks by "President" Obama to a Joint Session of Congress, September 9, 2009)

It's hard to keep track of Barry's lies, as there have been so many. Here's a link to a website that outlines and documents many of Barry's lies, beginning with the most recent ones of note and working backwards. While no site can possibly document all of Barry's lies, this one makes a good start of it.

There is also a place at the bottom of the site where they encourage viewers to submit additional lies. I can think of at least a few, and I'm sure you folks can too.

                      • The declining labor participation rate has created an additional 1.715 million young adults that are not counted as “unemployed” by the U.S. Department of Labor (BLS) because they are not in the labor force, meaning that those young people have given up looking for work due to the lack of jobs.
                      • If the labor force participation rate were factored into the 18-29 youth unemployment calculation, the actual 18-29-unemployment rate would rise to 16.7 percent (NSA).

5 Facts About The Massachusetts Economy Under Mitt Romney

                        1. Ranked 47th in job growth
                        2. Suffered the second-largest labor force decline in the nation
                        3. Lost 14 percent of its manufacturing jobs
                        4. Experienced “below average” economic growth and was “often near the bottom”
                        5. Piled on more debt than any other state

                        Comment

                        • As forum readers will note, I am definitely not a Romney supporter, and have already stated that I will be voting for Ron Paul in the national elections come November. I detest the way that the GOP pushed Romney through as their obvious choice above the other candidates, and used blatantly fraudulent tactics to ensure Mitt "won" the nomination. That said, I must also say that the recent Obama campaign ads, such as the one featured in Minoly's latest post, intentionally misconstrue the actual facts in an attempt to deflect criticism against Barry by painting a picture of Romney being even worse.

The ad says that, under Romney as governor, Massachusetts was 1st among the 50 states in state debt, and ranked 47th in terms of job creation. An August 14th Washington Post article, however, rated the Obama ad as deserving of two Pinocchios.

Yes, two Pinocchios, and here's why, as explained in the WP article:

High debt and slow job growth were long-standing problems in Massachusetts before Romney took office, and the GOP candidate actually improved conditions. Obama’s ad ignored all this.
The campaign mentioned an average of the Bay State’s job-creation rankings rather than doing a year-by-year comparison, thus hiding the fact that the state’s standing improved considerably under Romney. It also used a misleading debt metric to paint the worst possible picture of the Republican challenger’s financial stewardship — ignoring the fact that he slowed the rate of debt growth.

Romney actually slowed the annual rate of debt growth from 5.8 percent to 1.9 percent.

True to what the ad states, Massachusetts ranked 47th in the nation in job creation during Romney’s tenure. But that’s an average that doesn’t reflect the fact that he improved the state’s standing. Massachusetts started out at 50th when Romney entered office and ended at 28th by the time he left, as our colleagues at FactCheck.org noted in an article.
So you see that the Obama ad is very deceptive. Any "facts" gleaned from Progressive (a.k.a. Socialist) web sites should be questioned, scrutinized, and considered as doubtful until actually verified. And one can not research the veracity of such claims by doing their research on other Progressive websites. Note that if you point your mouse at the link shown at the top of Minoly's post (#3222) you will see that the link points you to thinkprogress.org, and that in itself should be a red flag.

Certainly the Progressives are not alone in their use of deception. Establishment Republicans will undoubtedly use deception to paint a picture of Romney as being the only candidate who can save this nation and put it on a path to recovery. In truth, neither Barry nor Mitt is capable of doing so, because neither will attack the root causes of our nation's decline - the Federal Reserve, the IRS, and big government borrowing and spending. Both are establishment politicians who will do nothing but work to ensure advancement of NWO objectives.
