I have a question. Once the capacitor back is full with 8000v How would one go about pulsing 8000 volts to a step down coil? I'm not some kind of electronics expert so please forgive me if this is a stupid question. All of the mosfets/transistors I could find only go up to about 600 volts or so. The smith.pdf also says IGBT could be used, but the ones I found that can do 15kv and higher are out of most peoples $$ range because they also do 300amps or more. Is there a cheaper component that will do this?
