    • My first exciter video. One AA battery using 2N2219. I have not got the audio figured out yet in Windows movie maker. Best if viewed at 720p.

      • Mosfet Slayer Exciter

        I finally got my Slayer Exciter to run on a Mosfet. Oddly I got it to run on a Radio Shack IRF510. It ran on 5 to 12 volts quite nicely at a 1/2 to 1 amp. I did use a 10k pot with a 100 ohm resistor between the gate and the (+) rail to help tune it. I tried an IRF730 but could not get it to oscillate.

        This is a terrible video but I wanted to document that indeed ---it does work.

          • @ Lidmotor. Well done - I hope you get some good reults from the fet. I love it - it seems to work much better than my TIP 32.

            @ Xee - nice vid! Im looking forward to seeing more.

            my exciter on a 12V battery - pretty much lights up all i have and runs the ion motor. The ion motor is inside a second coil connected to nothing but a vitual ground and some CFLs. In the future ill be trying to get my ion motor magnet spinning so that it will cut the coil with its magnetic field and thereby generate power from the spinning magnet as well as the spinning plasma. I imagine the second coil acts a receiver also for power from the exciter.

            This one uses an IRF 830 - my favourite at the moment.

              Good find. I tried the IRF510 and it works for me, the specs look good, and it is easy to get (my local Radio Shack had them in stock).

                I liked you new video. Great light show and ion spinner!
                I worked with the Mosfets again today and got my IRF730 to work as well as the IRF510. I am using a resistance now on both sides of the gate like Dr. Stiffler showed. On my setup I put 2.2k from the gate to the (-) rail and am using a 10k pot between the gate and the (+) rail for tuning. Different coil arrangement will call for different values probably. Anyway it worked.

                I'm glad that you got the 510 to work also. The 730 seemed to draw less current and now that I know that these work, I will probably order some 830s like Seth is using.

                    I cant get anything to run for longer than 5 mins wihout a massive heat sink. Only on 1AA can i work without one.

                    If anyone is having problems with transistors getting hot - heatsink and the bigger the better. My heatsink gets very very hot on the IRF830 at 15V, but the transistor still survives for very long runs.

                      This is the heat sink I used on the IRF510. Since I do not want to run down my batteries, I have not run for more than one minute at 12 volts (over one amp). At the end of one minute the 1/4 watt resistor is not even warm and the FET is only slightly warm. The heat sink is actually two small heat sinks used together.

                      • In this video I added a capacitor to collect the back emf from the L2 coil.

                        In my next setup I will add a variable capacitor in place of the bigger capacitor.
                        As you can see the light ouput is brighter when the capacitor was shorted out.

                          With 2n3055 (warm) 1 mohm R l2 18 T 18 awg solid inside L1 30 awg 8 1.5 inches

                          Very bright lamps including an 18 w UV lamp with 10 v 100 ma

                          With cellfone charger the UV lamp stays the same brightness 50 ma

                          Will try the Run charge 4 of Slayer

                            I had made the slayer exciter, and when I had went to check the voltage, it went well over 2kv and the current was over 200ma. I think that it was running off 5 volts (I think). And then i gave it a load of 15 volts with like 13 rechargeable cells in series and i managed to light up an 8 watt fluorescent bulb up with that. I think that I am getting the all-important voltage spikes. And i cant find any trigger transformers around my area except from maplins. And I dont want to dismantle a camera. Thank you. Wetissues

                            • Finally got my order of analog meters. I also got two lab DC power supplies. I also got a few 12V gel batteries and can now give accurate readings of what I'm doing. I hope? I have missed posting here and look forward to jumping back in.
