      Yep. me too. Nice video. You might be interested in playing with very low power Joule thief circuits to use with your home made batteries. This is lowest power I have made. You may need to decrease resistor value as performance depends on component selection to get amps this low.

      • Pop Bottle Exciter on ONE AA battery

        @Jonny
        I ran your pop bottle coil today on one AA (no cell phone charger). The circuit was just the bare bones Slayer Exciter and I used a TIP31. At less than 20mA I could light up a bunch of LEDs but not an FL.
        I made a video of it working along with a pulse motor driving a satellite magnet which powered Maggie from a distance (seperate project). I posted the video over at the One magnet no bearing thread. It is posted there instead of here because I show more of the motor than the exciter in the video.

        • @Lidmotor.Great vid and demo .Isn't it funny how all these projects can compliment each other.
          Regarding the pop bottle coil.I get my best results when using a loose wound spiral L2 coil of about 3 turns 18swg with plastic straw standoff's like you showed in one of your vids along with a 4148 diode from emitter to base.This should give you plasma at 240mA or so using an mpsa06 at 16v from a wall outlet transformer.
          I have not tried the above setup on a 1.5v battery but with my normal loose wrap L2 it will light a 4w tube on 3v and then i switch a battery out and it stays lit on one.I think once the tube is energised it does not take as much to run it as compared to the initial start but looking back at some of Slayers vids,he is the master of the 1.5v battery Jonny

          • New work

            I have finished winding the 3 coils for my upcoming exciter experiment. I plan on setting these up in a triangle and running them all using a individual Slayer Exciter for each. It will be interesting to see how the coverage are changes using three coils.

              Thanks Jonny for the tips on how to make the Pop Bottle Coil perform better. I had more fun with it yesterday running it with a better primary and 12 volts again. I put a thin FL tube down the bottle neck to light up the whole bottle. Great fun!! Now that I have learned more about these things I may back track to a 3" tube like Slayer called for and start over. He truely is the master of the one AA battery exciter and that coil design may have something to do with it.

              @Jiffycoil
              I can't wait to see what you are going to do with those coils. I took some time and looked at all the pictures that you have posted at the pic site and was amazed at all the you have built. That is a fantastic workshop of you have there. Stuff of dreams to those of us who make do with a screw driver, pair of pliers, and a kitchen table.

              Cheers,

                Thank you for the kind words. I assure you my work area and tools weren't always that way. I do realize how fortunate I am and I try to share that whenever I can. I'm also working on going back to the low voltage beginnings of the Slayer exciter. I think there is much to be learned there.

                I'm also going to do a study on how corn seedlings growth is effected by exposer at various proximities to the exciter. This is something I promised CosmicG and I need to do it. I don't know if this is the right study to make but it can surely give us some data that might be useful.

                • Hi Jiffycoil

                  Wowww so nice coils. Seems to be very exact.

                  Do you use a lathe for the winding or do you wind them by hand ?

                  And if you have a lathe could you explain how to do.

                  Thanks

                  and good luck at all

                    Thank you sir. I made a winding jig using an old variable speed drill and it has worked for years and wound dozens of coils.

                            Wow! You really are a pro! i cant wait to see what you do with those coils....so much to try Good Luck with the corn seedlings. I think you have to follow your own instincts with these experiments and do whatever intrigues you. Great to see everyone doing this as it gives us more info when there are several of us taking various directions.

                            The weekend is almost here at last.....free to play with my exciter. Im still trying to investigate the white light effect - the tungsten seems to burn away too damn fast at the brighter levels to sustain itself for longer than 5 mins.
