OK - ive had another look at the magic transistor - i think it says IRF 730, or maybe IRF Z30.

These are still MOSFETs right?

PS - the field on 1AA is huge....at least 40 cm from my toroid and the 18W CFL still lights. I love my new transistor/MOSFET!!!!

Yes the IFR730 is a FET. Attached is link to data sheet. Is the case you have the same as in data sheet?

Pretty slick Slayer ! Similar to the tesla switch configuration, the switch being manual as the batteries are charged.

What is the brand and model of your meter? I noticed it doesn't seem to be effected by the frequency.

Does it change the input power requirement adding the battery in line?

I've noticed some oddities using a parasitic plate under the circuit and batteries. I've found you can charge - or at least increase voltage - of a second battery bank either laying on the parasitic plate or on top of the first battery bank. I don't know if it's a real charge but the voltage is stable when removed from the charging location. I had a set of 4 - 1.2 volt batteries on top that went from 3.9 volts to 5.5 volts in a matter of 1/2 hour while testing the idea. After they were removed the voltage stabilized at around 5.1 volts. There was no connections to these batteries other than being in close proximity to the plate or run batteries.

In that circuit, are you using the tuning capacitor, as well as second coil on a battery terminal? I think a circuit diagram answers a thousand questions, though.

Also, if it isnt too much hassle, could you preform a charge/discharge test on a couple of batteries to back up your claim? I hope for the best!

Interesting that the more load, the more volts. I assume that you are getting closer to your tower's ideal resonant load as you add more fluorescent tubes. I wonder if an earthed grounding wire in close proximity to your tower would bring a higher charge voltage then the tubes?

In this video I just want to show how you can continuously run and charge with your Exciter.

For this to work the source voltage has to be higher than the charge voltage.

The phone charger should last for around eight hours.In that time you should be able to recharge two AA batteries off the one in the phone charger while getting good light.

This hasn't been tested, so it may work and it may not. Feel free to do with this as you like.

If you want to do this, and stay as close to what Puharich did as possible, then the on/off switching of the exciter should be done such that the power transformer you're driving is in resonance.

If it was marked "bce" I suspect it is a transistor.

Im getting much lower amp draw and much better output from a transistor i ripped out of a monitor - only one in the whole thing that worked, but it worked well.

for a bipolar transistor. Production upgrades often replace
the original part with another but retain the origional
markings until a new run of boards is furnished.

Congratulations! You've exposed the myth that MosFets
won't/can't/shouldn't/never work! In truth, MosFets do
all that a bipolar transistor can do, and better.

The "secret" is knowing how to provide the proper Gate
signal to the MosFet in order to make it perform
efficiently.

IRF 30 sounds like an incomplete number. Is something
missing?

1AA (in emergency charger) 1.27 V at 0.06 A (0.076 W) = 18W CFL fully lit, 15cm from L1. It'll even light my xenon tube a tiny bit, and my big neon bulb at the same time as the CFL. (first 2 mins of video)

6V lead battery @ 0.2A (1.2W) = 18W and 14W fully lit, again about 15cm wirelessly from L1, and my xenon works great in tandem with one the the CFLs.

Hi folks, if anyone may be interested, I replicated the automatic solar joule thief and the circuit works good. I'm going to box it up and use it for low level lighting. The circuit is interesting, since it doesn't need a photocell to function, it just uses the solar panel voltage output to switch off the led. In case anyone missed that circuit, here is lidmotor's video.

Here is a link to the video of my boxed version of this. I named it whimsically----"Hewey". It still works and does it's thing every day. My last version " Lewey" didn't work as well so I don't recommend that circuit. These were kinda childish toys but the principal circuits were of interest.

Looks good. I might give that a shot. Office Depot use to sell the 1.5v cell chargers. The one near here stopped selling them.

I figure it would just be a good idea to be able to make one of those from scratch.

Making the DC-DC Converter
The following parts are necessary to make this 0.7 to 5 Volt DC boost converter together with leads and either prototyping breadboard or soldering equipment and a board:

Just a quick note to anybody who's interested...

The schematic and video I posted was incorrect about the transistor I was using. I said C3198 when actually it's a 2N3094.

Also, I've been looking for info (video or other) on how a 1.5 cell phone charger works? I'd like to see if I can build one. Chilliqueen2007 has something that will output 250volts using a parted disposable camera circuit. I'd like to try this out and see if it'll power an SEC. But I'm thinking the amp output might be too low for the voltage it outputs...
