Hi, does anyone know a simple circuit that can increase the amperage from a DC power supply? I think this can be accomplished with a transistor, but I don't know how exactly. Would maybe a darlington pair be better? The starting current would be about 5ma at around 2 volts, what could this be increased to? Thanks!

Normally a series pass transistor is used that is capable of passing the maximum output current you need. The current increase you can get via the pass transistor mainly depends on the transistor Beta (hFE), [dIc/dIb, collector/base current ratio). If you have a power transistor with a Beta of 40, then you may get 200mA max oupot current from your 5mA original output. If this is not enough you may use transistor types with higher Beta or choose darlington types (you can also connect single types into darlington configuration too).
See these links for some solutions, maybe you have thought of like one of them:

You can increase the amperage but that can cost you the voltage on the output....
For example PC Power Supply, work charging CAPS sustainning the voltage on the output then you can measure the amperage in the input can consume 300 - 500 Watts on PC's in these days, 120VAC X 4 AMPS for example but the output can be 5 channels 12 VOLTS X 5 Amperes each channel. then total output is 12 Volts for example on 20-25 amperes total.Your time is limited, so don't waste it living someone else's life. Don't be trapped by dogma — which is living with the results of other people's thinking. Don't let the noise of others' opinions drown out your own inner voice. And most important, have the courage to follow your heart and intuition. They somehow already know what you truly want to become. Everything else is secondary.
