Typical parts have a margin of error, so for example 10k resistor has a 5% tolerance, meaning that it may be anywhere from 10500 ohms to 9500 ohms. This makes a big difference in the frequency you actually transmit. On top of that, a full rife device has 2 or 3 stages of amplification before it gets to the plasma tube, so they are accurate AND powerful. I would expect experienced radio hams might be able to cobble together something acceptable for frequency healing, but I know they would not go shopping at radio shack for their parts.
Plus, some of the illnesses that you can cure with rife devices need the frequency changed or sweeped and that requires some programming of sorts, which adds another few levels of complexity more then just a dude in front of a potentiometer.
Thats why cure-alls appeal to me, such as living an alkaline diet. I just know and respect frequency healing too much for me to attempt to make something for myself, because I don't trust my parts.
If you do decide to try to make a rife device, spare no initial expense because to get it wrong might have no effect other then placebo.
