  • GM's "car of the future" .... the Hy Wire

Nice design, and it's about time they built something that makes sense. I wonder if this will get scrapped like the EV-1, as it looks too good to go into production.

Rickoff you are old and wise by now. Do you really think these sleaze bags are going to do anything that will change the status quo? This concept has been going around since 2001, electric and air cars have been going around since and before Nikola Tesla.

GM's top priority isn't making efficient and modular cars asap. Instead it's making crappy ass cars and engines that are terribly inefficient and have a huge after market. This will allow them to hand out multi million bonuses to individuals at the end of each year, instead of spending it on R&D to introduce new technologies and faster ways to bring it forward. These money wolves are not in business to progress mankind they will do everything to keep things as they are as long as possible.

For me the only way to go completely electric and give these psychopaths the finger is by building a free energy device that outputs DC electricity. Then with a 5k$ budget I modify a conventional car to run electric. This is quite straightforward as the many youtube projects show.

However if you wish you can spend more money on a more out "of the box" solution by buying an already electric car and throwing out the batteries and replacing it by free energy. Then I would actually recommend a very cool concept by a company called Trexa:

    TREXA - READY. SET. BUILD.

    The design is very modular, it has a relative low price for a new and innovative technology;

TREXA announces pricing details for DIY electric car

Best of all it's open source, not buried in mountains of patents and proprietary systems.

THAT is something worthy of support.

So the moral of the story. Get a free energy device ASAP.

No, I don't. I think it's just their way of thumbing their nose at us as if to say, "Here's what we could do, but don't hold your breath waiting for it, you chumps!"

Rick... I hate to burst your simpathetic bubble for GM, but the Discovery Channel released a dvd set called "The Future Car" back in 2007 using this very same chassis from GM... I really don't think you will ever see this or anything like it on the road, in mine or your life time.. The powers that be find it much to their advantage to show us what could be not what will be!!!
As long as they are not forced to do so, then they will not. The Chevy Volt
in my opinion will never see daylight... but if by some chance it does.. it'll probably be in excess of 60 grand... My thought is do your own and hope battery (or free energy) technology will catch up.

The main problem i see with Car running off Hydrogen is realy the Hydrogen. The price will go up per Liter of hydrogen because its not a realy efficient process to make it, it need alot of Amps to make it in big quantity even with High quality industrial generator. So the customer will pay the Electric bill to make it, PLUS , the profit margin and since that will be new, the price will be high, all Hydrogen station will have to be paid in a way or another to make this service accessible to everybody who own one of that type of engine.

The only way i see they will make it available to everyone is if the gasoline go up to 3-4 $ per Liter So they will be able to sell Hydrogen at about ~2$ per liter because its realy what will be the minimum cost for the implantation for large scale.

              Best Regards,

We've seen gas over 4.50 a gallon and all we got were promises from the auto industry... untill the oil is gone ,production of any alternative fuel automobile will only happen in small independant companies.

I was talking about Liter, not gallon, sorry if that was not clear, if you want the conversion , 1 gallon = 3.78 Liter so that equal to 11.34-15.12 $ before real action will begin. Under that price , the Hydrogen cant compete with the gas because of the initial cost:, hydrogen station, generator, building , transportation, etc etc.

You need to factor everything, if tomorrow a Hydrogen car is accessible , you will need Hydrogen station all around the county , else that doesn't work, the price will probably start at 35k for a car in the first 2 year , now about 15% of the population will switch to that technology in the first year, profit will not be there. The price per Liter of Hydrogen need to be under what the gas is by a good margin to make it attractive. If the gas go to 3-4$ per liter , every country around the world will begin to look at that alternative because the inflation cant overcome the price of gas so the decision will be simple. Its why i said that the primer will be the Gas price if you factor the initial cost to make Hydrogen accessible to everyone which will be about 2$ per liter.

Their time line says it all. "10 years"!

Their time line says it all. "10 years"! Peak oil in the US occurred in 1970s, and has been in steady decline since 1997. World peak oil is widely understood to be occurring or having already occurred.

I'm not a CEO of a big automotive firm or anything, but if i was and my development team told my that they were 10 years out from completion of a prototype car, I would have but one response...

What the hell is going to take that long? Are we building a dream here or is this real technology? Maybe I should check with our marketing department and see if thats the real reason its taking so f'ing long!

                        lol.

C'mon GM. I say this only because i have been witness to the development of HHO gas as a real technology since as far back with Stan Meyer in 1987. Patented, used in Nasa Cassini probe. Its all about control over their hand.

I fully agree with you Paul, and I was just being a bit facetious in my starter post when I said, "I wonder..." I know darned well that we will never see such a car mass produced, unless of course we reach the point in time when selling Hydrogen at oil company owned "Hydrogen fill-up stations" becomes more lucrative to the oil companies than selling gasoline.

I have no sympathy whatsoever for GM, and was very much opposed to the government bailout. GM should have gone the way of the dinosaurs.

I do like the car in the video, though. It just goes to show that we could already have this technology now, and quite possibly many years ago, if the automakers were actually concerned about the environment and the economy. If all other autos produced by GM were discontinued, and this car produced in large numbers at a truly affordable price, the "CO2 problem" would be a non-issue, but of course that wouldn't work out well for big government's Cap & Trade tax plans.

We both know that we will have to come up with our own solutions to affordable transportation, as neither the automakers nor government will do this for us.

                          Best 2 U, Paul,
