Hi petersone, you cannot cancel a magnetic field by putting 2 permanent magnets together, the fields are still there, but what happens to the fields is the point. take 2 permanents and put them in repulsion together and you still have a field on the other side, now put more magnets on one stack and the leave just one magnet on other and on the other side of the one magnet is next to no field, the field didnt get canceled it just diverted to somewhere. That is what is interesting here, the flux diverting aspect and as you say how much power it takes to do so may have value, or not.
