I can only add something from clear thinking. We know not much scalar waves but one of them is pressure wave. If you have a point as a source of pressure disturbance in large water container then pressure wave is flowing in all directions at the same intensity and speed. You can take any point around the origin point and the only thing you can say is the amount of pressure in that point but that would not allow somebody else to conclude where this point is located in space because there is infinite number of similar points all lying on the sphere of the same radius from origin point.
Very similar way we can have scalar sound wave far from symmetrical source.
Scalar wave is very special case indeed and I think it's better to not forget about it. Better is analysing longitudinal waves and I think radiant energy is longitudinal electric wave, while if the source is symmetrical and in vacuum it may produce electric scalar wave.
Those just were my old thoughts about that concept.
