  • To add salt to the wound is the strategy it seems as the only reason to use corexit 9500 would be to conceal the magnitude of the problem.
    Period.
    What other reason?
The oil is bad enough with all its ingredients, but to take refined chemical (which came from some other refinery) and haul even more noxious product and add that to the already huge problem...........
Hmm .... toxic oil leak.....hmm, hide that by using an even more toxic product .
what is astonishing is that the company personnel are still left to deal with it.
They are obviously incompetent and this isn't a small matter, yet the gov't doesn't step in and deal with it.
The military should have moved in long ago to deal with this terrorism.

The fact that they haven't just raises even more flags.

    • I think you are wasting your time and efforts. Under the current situation, the big oil will already win. The US court has already ruled against the Administration on drilling ban:

U.S. judge blocks offshore drilling ban: reports - MarketWatch

The judges in the US have invested heavily in oil. With this precedent, they would rule in favor of the oil industry on other lawsuits that harm their investments

From my prospective, you and i are no more than a lone voice in the wilderness. All the discussions here and there about this topic are no more than an illusion. I predict, if nothing happens, the next step for the oil industry is to get the public on their side to chant against Gore.

GIVEN A GOOD ENOUGH REASON TO.

The way is to let them know there are viable alternatives, that will save these Consumers money, and still allow them to do the "right thing". If we can get enough people aware of the REAL possibilities regarding "Energy", we can see this happen within a few short years: As Greater Public Awareness will create huge pressure to FORCE the proper study of these devices, FORCE the allowing of them to come to market, and FORCE the mainstream media to finally honestly report on them. The Cusp Point of public awareness must be first reached, but when it is... the game is won.

Right now, we see the start up costs of both Wind and Solar prohibitively high. This really is a serious problem, and why they have not been embraced by more consumers. When it takes 6 or 7 years for "ROI", this is still a hard sell when $20k to $60k are needed to invest for average grid-tied systems.

Of course, when the cost issues are examined, we see that Solar panels could be much more efficient, and if manufactured in higher quantities the price would drop very significantly. WHO IS THE BIGGEST PLAYER IN SOLAR??

      BP !

      Lol, wtf...?

Even a free energy device such as one of the technologies we discuss here, will have serious start up costs associated with it. Of course, being "24/7", they will have significant advantages over most conventional alternative energy techs. But say, it costs "$12,000" for an average Consumer to buy and install one of these Free Energy generators... The Return of Investment period will be much shorter, perhaps under 3 years.... This is what will make a huge difference and "change everything".

Of course, we in the Open Source Energy genre can help with these cost and "ROI" issues, by putting out good info for "do-it-yourselfers" all over the world to benefit from. But, we need to understand, the vast majority of people will need to BUY something, not build it themselves.

But the real problem behind all this, is that once that F-E unit is installed... In the US anyway... The local private power utility corporation that runs the Grid goes from making $3k off of that family a year TO MAKING ZERO from them. In other countries that have Nationalized power utilities, the government itself will resist losing this easy revenue; nobody likes losing their "empire".

And so these entities are fighting this to the bitter end; and spending tons of money in graft and lobbying and illegal control and brow-beating and extortion and internet shills and psy-ops games to see that they remain monopolies and huge, un-elected, political monsters for as long as they can get away with it.

So are the coal conglomerates that supply most of the fuel to them. So are the oil companies that also sell fuel to them, and more importantly, have the monopoly on vehicle fuels. And so are their allies the electrical and heavy industry manufacturers (like "G.E." and the car makers)... who hold their current market share and positions ONLY as long as the current paradigm built around coal and oil exists, Once there is a "level playing field" again where even "start-ups" can grab huge market share quickly; who knows who will be top dog? There is good evidence it will NOT be them, lol.

Lol, it is ironic that Fiscal Conservatives in the US are always complaining about "free markets"... And the bitter reality is, that the people they support are doing their damnest to see that there are no really free markets, only the joke and facade of them.

But the time has come, to put the future and safety of the Planet, and Humanity itself, above the destructive, selfish, and SOCIOPATH desires of corporations and government bureaucrat graspers. We really have no other sane choice left now, and going on as before is just not an option.

The Gulf Disaster illustrates quite clearly what happens when we do.

      • Believing it is "hopeless" is a self-fulfilling prophesy

Illusion is doing nothing and expecting anything useful to happen.

It is pretending that we are too insignificant to make a difference (which is also sometimes used as an excuse to "not bother"). I make a difference every day in some people's lives; as they make in mine. We all collectively can indeed make a difference; and on a huge scale.

I am old enough to remember when REAL grass roots efforts changed our world.

Civil Rights for African Americans, and all minorities.

        The Women's Rights Movement.

The Ecology Movement of the late 60's and 70's; that changed the Great Lakes and thousands of other waterways from dead, polluted nightmares into living entities again... WE DID THIS, by forcing the politicians to act, even though most were in the polluter's pockets.

And we can do it again.

But not if we believe it is "hopeless".

              Not so.
If the area is going to turn into a dead-zone wasteland it would be nice to get a heads up from people who are closer to it.
It is good to have a thread on this issue as it has enormous negative potential for us all.
Lots of very informative and useful links have been provided.
              Keep that up...please.
Things could go really bad due to this event....epic, and reality changing, possibly.
I hope for the best, but who can tell.

                      Hi Folks,

Most of the focus has been on the oil content of what is coming out of the well, but there is a very high content of Methane coming out, also. Here is the first study I have seen looking at the Methane content of the waters near the spill site.

                            • some news:
Obama Is Deliberately Protracting Gulf Oil Disaster | Before It's News
If you were the President of the United States
and you see that Gulf wildlife are dying and fishermen and tourist businesses are suffering from the worst environmental disaster in U.S. history, wouldn’t you do EVERYTHING humanly possible to help? I would. I would be down on the beach with my sleeves rolled up to help with the cleanup, picking up tarballs and cleaning off oil from seabirds.

Instead, Obama has turned down 13 countries’ offers to help clean up the BP oil spill. The Dutch were the first to offer assistance that, if accepted, would have cleaned up the spill in a matter of weeks.

Frustrated by the federal government’s inaction and BP’s ineffectiveness, Louisiana Governor Bobby Jindal took action and got oil-fighting vacuum barges to remove the oil. But then the Coast Guard shut down all 16 barges last Wednesday, claiming their operations needed to be halted until inspections and certifications could be done.

In other words, the situation as it stands now is as follows:

                              * BP is ineffective at stopping the roiling oil spill.
                              * The spill is getting worse. CBS News is reporting that there could be as much as 1 billion barrels of oil under the damaged BP oil well in the Gulf of Mexico and that it could keep flowing for more than a decade.
                              * Obama inexplicably and irrationally refused 13 countries’ offers to help.
                              * The Obama administration is also thwarting Gulf coast states and private citizens from helping.

                              The unavoidable conclusion is this:

                              (A) Obama is either grossly incompetent and unfeeling; or

                              (B) He’s so evil that he’s deliberately protracting and worsening the spill so as to foist on us the Cap ‘n Trade Tax “climate change” bill. Just as ObamaCare is not about health care, so Cap ‘n Tax is not about the climate. It’s all about more power to the already too-big too-powerful government.

                              My vote is for (B).
