  • Crude Impact

A few years ago, I saw Crude Impact (2006). It shows some of the
destruction in the third world countries by the oil companies that go
in and rape and pillage those nations.

Crude Impact - explores the interconnection between human domination of the planet, and the discovery and use of oil.

Might be online for free somewhere.

    @ Mike,

This movie may show some of what is happening there...been a while.

The latest was on CNN about three weeks ago, that is CNN international that I get by stallite. The video that they showed was of rivers of oil and the people were collecting the oil to sell as all the fish in the rivers were dead and the crop fields were poluted and nothing grew, this video was shot about 4 weeks ago and was supress after CNN aired it, a pitty I did not record it.

This might be similar to what you saw or is it the same?

          • Not the same but similar

Thanks Aaron for posting this, it is not the same one but similar and a lot tamer than the other one which showed the dieing children from the polution.

            • I have a question: Africa has 16 oil producing countries.

What causes the oil spills in Nigeria (and Ghana, 2x Congo's, E.Guinea, Chad, Cote dIvoire, Cameroen, Angola)?

Why not so many oil spills in majority other countries - all in Africa and operated by same companies - Algeria, Egypt, Libya, Tunisia . . ?

Anyone dare to give the reality answer?

Looking at only one side of a picture is wrong and plain stupid.

Ohh by the way; the presented holy accusing face presented on BBC and CNN of Shell company when asked about ". . .would you have made the same mistake as BP . . ." Interesting the here noted Nigeria operation - is that of Shell.

Therefore we need to find NEW ways, NEW experiments and NEW lines of thoughts.

Wonder if we did what these guys did would we be justified?
                    UK factory saboteurs acquitted

A group of activists who broke into an arms factory near Brighton last year and caused damage costing around £180,000 ($275,000) were found not guilty last week of causing criminal damage. In a lawsuit filed in October, seven British activists claimed they were legally justified to break in and sabotage the factory of EDO MBM Technology near Brighton, on the south coast of England, in January 2009, at the time of Operation Cast Lead.

                    • So what has anyone heard concerning the radiation levels of this oil?
Is anyone putting a geiger counter onto this stuff at all?

I have heard that this is a huge part of the problem which is being swept under the rug, and explains why they are still using corexit despite its obvious problems (and hence why the EPA is letting that go).
So far it is just a theory I have heard, with no confirmation....this needs to be confirmed.

I know there is radiation problems in the oil and gas fields due to some consulting work I did years ago to find filtration systems which would remove such particles from water at a plant in northern canada.

                      • Well, obviously i have not put a Geiger counter to the oil (it hasn't gotten here yet, although i have seen some aerial photos of some of it about 20 miles offshore from Marathon; perhaps 50 miles away from here). It is true, that oil and coal both have significantly higher gamma radiation than background.

But that really sounds like another red herring to me. Especially because using dispersant, that is essentially "Toluene", could only make any situation worse.

Imagine having some jerk dump several gallons of used motor oil into your swimming pool. Now he also dumps in touline... And see the oil become tiny little balls all through the water. What good does that do? Considering the highly toxic nature of the dispersant... obviously no good, and a great deal of harm. Now not only is your pool totally polluted, but the air around it is toxic also.

A very good article published today with specifics on the toxic pollutants involved. But it is important to note, that the dispersant/oil mix is making many NEW compounds, essentially this whole disaster is a huge "chemistry experiment"... That no one knows how it will come out, only that it will be "very bad".

                        • I am not so sure about it being a red herring

a radioactive problem would explain all the unexplainable actions the government has taken.

                          - Refusing foreign help to keep the secret
                          - Minimal deployments to reduce the number of ships wasted to radioactivity. Once a ship is exposed long enough, it is unusable.
                          - Using amounts of Corexit beyond what would be needed (even using Corexit at all despite the illegality of it in the UK and the EPA's initial disapproval). They are trying to sink the oil as fast as possible. Because the water will shield the radioactivity and prevent the air from become radioactive.
                          - Shipping and low altitude flight bans.
                          - Clean up workers need special gear to protect themselves.
                          - Preventing respirators because people getting sick if they were used gives big red flags.
                          - All the illnesses associated with the oil spill resemble radioactive poisoning.
                          - The medical center is guarded and completely off-limits to the media, anyone on the outside is forbidden. That is a real strange issue too.

                          So, who knows?
I am not saying that this is the case, but it is plausible and would explain those strange methods being employed.
I think that this needs to be looked into by people in the area....get a geiger counter going and let us know.....if you can.

                          • A very dangerous factor of these "new" airborne chemical compounds that are being created by the offshore burning of the oil/dispersant mix out at the site of the BP Gulf Disaster... Is that there are no specific EPA tests for them; and it is yet unknown if they will all show up on the usual tests for oil compounds or not.

We already know that local TV news in LA have aired EPA officials stating P-P-B figures for KNOWN dangerous compounds, at rates hundreds of times higher than allowed by law (and much higher on days when the wind was blowing from the burning going on out in the Gulf at the site of the BP Disaster.... But these shocking local reports WERE NOT picked up by the parent national networks, the corporate owned mainstream media at national level.

Dr. Rikke Ott is an expert, who has hands-on experience from the Exxon Valdez disaster. She discusses the incredible health risk to both animals and humans from the airborne poisons.
