Source for a high purity iron rod?

Anyone know a good affordable source for a high purity iron 98.5% or higher.
Rod = 1.5" od and 36" long to build a PMH.

        Thanks,

Go to your local welding supply and buy the common rod for arc welding. Its usually (something ,something) 1174 or 1175. You'll have to soak the rods in a bucket with some water for a day. Then clean the flux off, but no big deal, just wear gloves.

You can get a sledge hammer and torch and make the size of bar you need.
OR have them welded together with the same product.

As far as anything big there is no cheap solution for pure iron at that rating. But any hardware store usually can sell some soft steel stock bar. Its around 85% iron. Its cheap as well.

            Matt,

            Do appreciate the information.

85% purity level is too low for this experiment.

Has anyone had experience testing a high purity iron (98.5% or higher) PMH that was made to Leedskalnin's dimensions?

IF your making a PMH, you can lash the welding rods together. It works I have already done it. Just flatten things out with a grinder where they are making contact. I don't think mine was as specified but it worked the same.

              Cheers

Ed's generator wasn't much different than a huge grandfather clock which uses weights and gravity to convert into mechanical motion (This is the reason for the tripod, chains, etc).

It's really hot in Florida during most of the year and Ed worked mostly at night to escape the extreme heat during the day. Since he worked mostly at night to erect the coral, then he would need light to work and for other basic needs, such as for a radio and his experiments. He probably handcranked the generator to reset the weights again or used a block and tackle system.

He may have used weights and gravity to put water under high pressure to cut the coral. With high water pressure you could easily cut the coral with precision. Here's a video demenostrating how one man can erect a 20,000 lb block with a simple contraption, Man Moves Huge Blocks!

                    Matthew,

                    Thank you.

Great job on the home construction. Were those orbs in some of the pictures that showed up on the inside of your house that you constructed

                        Pmh Iron

                        Hey IndianaBoys.
You need to find some true wroght iron. It is not made these days but can still be found here and there. Try a Blacksmith's group.
I'm looking for the same thing.

Here is a simplified version of using gravity and weights to generate electricity using a harmonic gear drive hand, LED floor lamp is powered by gravity.

Increase the weights, increase the height, and increase the gear reduction ratio of the harmonic drive and it will run longer and generate more electricity before needing to be reset. Ed talked about being able to generate lots of light with his best generator in his book "magnetic currents", and he may have used this method to generate electricity and light so he could work at night during cooler temperatures in order to erect the corals.

This would be a really good way to store energy from wind or solar and to get off the grid if it was scaled up.

Beautiful looking concept this is things we need, long lasting, simple and clean. Especially when the grid goes off.

Ya if you look back about 10 pages you'll find a fellow who did. The search doesn't always work real well but you can try it too.
