Well that is true, after all most Tort and Criminal Law is essentially about "debate"
What it is, is a formal method of communication. Communication of ideas, in the cases we see here in these forums. Not as popular as many of us would like to see it these days, but still around and kicking despite "You Tube" lol.
Perhaps the important aspect of internet forums and debate is, nearly universal access. Anyone can read it, anyone can join in. We are all a google search away from having it read by 500,000,000 people (well, that would crash everything big-time, but you know what i mean lol ).
That brings up a "thought problem" :
One of the devices discussed here, "somehow", makes it to market, or a new prestigious University Study is released on the concept. The news, again "somehow" lol, makes it into the mainstream media, and is widely reported on all over the world as the magic bullet to "end oil as a fuel". And suddenly, there is a huge hunger of hundreds of millions of people all over the world, to learn more about this new technology. Somehow, there is a mention somewhere in the news reports that it was discussed in the "Free Energy forums" (or a lot of people figure that out for themselves).
What happens then?
Of course this is not especially likely lol. Since we know that presently the mainstream media has no interest at all on reporting on these subjects. After all, in this year alone we had:
> Maummer Yildiz giving a public demonstration of his "all-magnet" free energy motor on April 20th, 2010 ; at Delft University in the Netherlands, in front of many witnesses and cameras.
> Dr. Daniel Nocera of M.I.T.'s amazing announcement from April, in which he stated that in the last two years since their last paper, they have both found much better catalyst materials, and have increased energy efficiency of the hydroxy production by "One Hundred Fold" (which would then certainly be "OU" if considering the caloric heat value of burning the Brown's gas, verses the electrical Watts energy needed to sustain the effect).
Besides the Steorn public demo stuff (December '09, Jan '10).
Anyway, what if the NEXT one does "hit" and because of a paradigm shift and change in the "balance of power" behind the scenes caused by the BP Gulf Disaster... Gets into the mainstream media? Or one of those listed above does? What happens then?

Funny one

i hated school..
That just brought up a "MOM" memory to me.
At our sons school for 12 years in a row the Science Teacher ( during the debate session ) proved the Earth was flat using inductive reasoning. Our son was the first student in the 12 year record to use deductive reasoning and prove the Earth is round.
Proof of Earth's Shape and Size
One of the teachers strongest proofs using deductive logic was the use of water on two surfaces. The teacher poured the water on a desk and instructed the entire class to notice that the water remained on the flat surface just as the oceans remain on the surface of the earth. He then poured the water on a basketball and stated clearly that the water doesn't stick to the round surface. Since the oceans stick to the earth then the earth cannot be round and must be flat. No student was ever able to refute that logic during that 12 year period. Our son got up if front of the class and showing that the wall was flat threw a glass of water on the wall. Turning to the teacher he said " using your own logic the earth cannot be flat." He also used deductive logic as shown in the above document to prove the earth is round.

What would we call it if everyone on this forum participated in a single debate?
A mass debate?"Seek wisdom by keeping an open mind to alternative realities, questioning authority, and searching for truth.
