    Yep. You don't replace the spring. You need the spring.

      Even though this is a render it does not all work as expected. We have found out you can only use one pendulum. And so much has changed in its not even possible to run through a simulator as model.

      We are working on getting all the parts together now for a final build. It will be amazing, rest assured.

      • Hi, thanks for posting the video. All my ideas to add a gravity assist have fail.
        I starting to fabricate a bouncer. I plan to use bike chain with a spring at one end, the chain will run over a flywheel shaft with a chain ring and overrun clutch and then attach to the bouncer. I will post results when available. Thanks again for the information.

          • Basic Dynamics (Physics)

            The point of greatest force (torque) is where the two moving pieces connect at the hinged end. In the drawing there is a bottom plate that is stationary and a top piece that is hinged to it at one end. The LONGER that top piece is, the greater the torque (force) at the hinge point that is created by the rotating weight. The LONGER the top piece, the smaller the rotating weight can be and still achieve the same amount of torque (force) at the hinged point. The smaller the weight, the less the energy required to rotate it. (but the weight of the LONGER piece must be factored into that also). Modeling would establish the best balance between length of top bar/weight and strength of materials, which is also important. The device needs to extend BEYOND the pivot point at the hinged end, which is where the most force will be.
            The shorter the distance beyond the pivot point at the hinged end, the greater the force.
            The shorter the distance beyond the pivot point, the smaller the range of motion. The greater the distance, the greater the range of motion but the more torque is reduced.

            • Thank you for posting the relationships involved. Can you suggest a configuration that will add mechanical advantage and not reduce RPM at the drive shaft? From the video it looks like the bouncer produces such high force that I will be able to add a gearbox to the output drive shaft. Everything is a trade off.

                      There are two problems with this:

                      1. This does not inspire others to come on board

                      2. By not disclosing, the material could be written into a patent application.

                            Read the thread. Matt has disclosed everything about this project at one time or another.

                            Having read through both this thread from the beginning again last night, plus the linear accelerator thread, and having watched all the videos, including Woopie's videos, I think I have the glimmerings of an idea.

                            From Woopie's comments, and from talking to you and watching the videos, my understanding is that the rotation of the pendulum cannot be restricted in any way, nor GOVERNED in any way because you need the acceleration of the pendulum on the downstroke to contribute to the power output of the machine. Which is why Woopie's use of magnets on the pendulum going past a coil is not acceptable, since this movement of magnets past the coil slows down the rotation.

                            You don't want to mess with anything at the hinged end of the device, because this is where your power takeoff connects.

                            This leaves the spring at the front of the device as a possible (additional) source of energy generation. What if magnetic compression was used here rather than springs...a neo in the bottom of a tube, and another neo on a rod in magnetic opposition to it inserted into the tube from the other end, and a coil wrapped around the tube. One neo goes up and down the tube on the rod, but never hits bottom because of the other neo in opposition to it. As it moves up and down the tube it moves through the coil. The tube could be a steel cylinder with ends that screw on. There would need to be magnets in both of the screw on end caps, so that the magnet in the middle had magnetic opposition in BOTH directions, and this would replace the two springs. One cap for the tube would be secured to the base. You could use neos with holes in them and many sizes of pipe come with threaded ends and caps that will thread on them. This is how they make pipe bombs. This is just an idea (not the pipe bomb), and probably something better could be developed, but I think it is a possible direction.

                              I don't know what your trying to say. I would hope that your not trying to say I have sat on this for my own greedy purpose or something. Even if I had, its mine, I'll do with it what I will.
                              I have steady worked out problems with it and currently I am in the design and simulation phase of the tenth version.
                              It works, thats all I can say.
