  • Magnetic Switching vs PWM vs Physical Switching

Hello Everyone. I'm new to the forum here and would like to hear some comments about magnetic switching vs PWM vs physical switching.

I've tried them all and from my research physical switching produces the strongest spike, especially using pure silver as contacts.

I don't know why but I believe transistors and resisters are absorbing the fly-back spike. any comments on this?

    I agree,

from my own humble tests and more so from what others have said yes contacts produce the best spike, possibly next best are mosfets..but physical is best.

The problem with mechanical is spark upon switch off. It make mechanical less efficient.

With good transistor and configuration, I see increase of efficiency or spark to 4 times compared to single 2N3055.

There is a spark because you need to direct the back-spike to a battery. This simple circuit will reduce the spark so that it hardly heats and oxidizes the contacts (12v). Try two leads with new shiny quarters as as your contact switch and you'll see it hardly makes any spark until you disconnect the battery.

I've been testing different types of metals for months and discovered that using pure silver will increase your back-spike up to %10-15.
