  • Extra Long Air-Core Coil Lentz Aiding Generator

Hi folks, I had an idea while laying in bed about this generator idea. Though I had already built a model to test in the past, the problem was I used a ferromagnetic core in the coil and the neo magnets field flowed through the core and into the ferromagnetic slug on opposite side rotor, which caused a like polarity in ferro slug in other side of coil, which cancels any voltage or current generation. So it just dawned on me, if we remove the core and make the air-core coil long enough so that the neo magnets field does not extend across in the air and interact with the ferromagnetic material at opposite rotor, then it may be possible to create a lentz aiding generator effect. My thoughts on how this would function. A diode is used to only allow current to flow in coil or coils on the approach phase to the air-core coil so that when a lentz current is generated by the neo magnet approaching the coil at opposite rotor, we have the normal lentz drag at the neo magnet side, however at the far opposite rotor we now have the feeromagnetic slug attracting to the air-core coil, which may to some degree alleviate lentz drag. Then since the diode will not allow current to flow when neo magnet rotor departs form air-core coil, it is free to rotate to next attract phase. Here is a cad pic of the idea. Let me know what you folks think of this idea and if it seems workable to you. Though I shall be building a test model to see soon. Thanks.

Hi folks, please, I really would like to know what people think of this idea and if you see a flaw or you see how it could work. The reason I think it could work, is based on Peter L. attraction motor concept, in that since only one field, that of the induced magnetic field on the opposite end of the coil is interacting with the ferromagnetic rotor piece and should only attract at that end and not induce its own lentz field. So I thought of another way to build a simple test model, this test build will have 2 stator air coils at 90 degrees to each other and 1 rotor which will have 2 neo magnet stacks at the 3 and 9 o'clock positions and 2 ferromagnetic slugs at the 12 and 6 o'clock positions on the rotor. It would be easier just to put 1 neo magnet at 3 o'clock and 1 slug at 9 o'clock on the rotor, however balancing would be a difficulty for now. So I will be winding the 2 air-core coils to test this concept.

      Hi SkyWatcher
There is a problem imho. if a north pole mag. is going towards the coil it will produce a north pole at the coil, normal lenz,as you say,the other end of the coil will be a south pole, and induce a north pole on the iron piece,we now have a north approaching both ends,it may reduce the drag, but will reduce the juice.
I reserve the right to be totally wrong!!

Hi petersone, thanks for the reply. I made a couple tests using a permanent magnet and a steel bolt and I brought the steel bolt within different distances from the magnet and used another magnet to get an idea of the cores magnetic polarity state at various locations on the bolt. I found that if a north pole magnets field is extending out into the steel bolt at varying distances up to top dead center, that the steel bolt maintains a north polarity through the steel bolts entire length. I finished the coils and will be finishing the rotor soon and mounting the air coils for testing.
